Surveillance footage from a nearby building showed a burst before debris explode into the air followed by a billow of smoke. Evansville Fire Department officials said 11 of the 39 damaged homes were considered uninhabitable.

The neighborhood was in tatters Wednesday, with splintered remains of homes flung across the road and first responders searching for victims and beginning the long process of cleaning up.

One person had been hospitalized and officials said they expected potentially more victims as state and local agencies continued to search the area.
