One of the antonyms of “symbolic” is “actual”, so, saying that these bilateral meetings are symbolically very important is not the same as saying that they are actually important, and leaves open the possibility that these meetings are actually very unimportant (for example, maybe, we can take USMCA and AUKUS as being actually, for example, politically and economically international institutionally structurally actually very important compared to these bilateral PM-President meetings). So, what might Fmr PM Chretien be saying, is he someone who has used his words this cleverly or not, is he in this conversation?
