@bob You are 1/2 correct, the Unions did great things for workers early in the industrialization of this country. I have been in the UAW, all they did for me and others was keep bilking money from our checks and kept people on the job that should have been let go many times. Just look at what they have done to GM, held them hostage when the company was doing great, This is why GM had to move jobs out the U.S.A to stay competitive with Honda and Toyota that are NON Union shops.
But we are all at fault because we have gotten use to cheap crap from china , we put up with buying stuff that works for a year or less and in the trash it goes and we buy it again. If we learn anything from this mess , it is to bring the products home. But we will go back to the cheap crap and put up with it.

I own a small business. I rented a nice building that is over 100 years old. It’s great, but for about a year and a half I kept having leaks from the roof. The land lords kept doing patch job after patch job until they decided to strip off and replace the roof all together. The owner told me “I wasted more money and caused more damage with each patch job. I should’ve just replaced the entire roof from the beginning.”
That is what doing “Patch Jobs” will do for you. You need to tackle the problem head on. Unfortunately we have a President who had no balls for this job. He wants all the reward while taking no risk.

Yeah…That’s what you want in a leader.
