Lawrence: Top Priority For Dems Is A Candidate Who Can Beat Trump | The Last Word | MSNBC

America is already voting early in several states, and Lawrence O’Donnell says that it's clear for Democrats across the country that the top priority this year voters — far more than agreement on policy positions — is nominating a candidate who can take out Trump on Election Day in November. 1. Don’t forget: “And undo everything that Trump has done that hurts America, it’s people and the entire world”

Trump is a complete *failure* as a president, as he has been his entire life.

    Fact.

    1. I hope they don’t let you out of the house unsupervised, that much ignorance is a health hazard to anyone near you.

    2. @Geddy Schacher Not a complete failure. As a con artist he’s magnificent. But the number of stupid people in the country grows less with time.

    3. @Donald Edward Sure thing…..

Your problem is, people are getting wise to it, but don’t care….

Because ANY alternative you try to provide has already been proven inferior….

Folks ALREADY know that about you….😉

  2. How can you possibly bring up Bloomberg possibly qualifying without mentioning the DNC changing the rules specifically so he will qualify?
    How disingenuous!!!

Personally, I do not mind him being on stage if the moderators treat him and Bernie the same. He will be exposed as the racist, sexist Republican egomaniac he has always been. His only saving grace is his hatred of our Mob-Boss-in-Chief, but that hardly makes him a Democrat.

I might have squeezed a little respect out for him if he had simply invested his billions in attack adds against the common enemy without supporting anyone rather than trying to buy the presidency.
Let’s see if he holds true to his word and spends to support Bernie after winning the nomination.

    1. Notice how MSNBC conveniently avoids speaking of certain things (like Bloomberg’s odious Book of Wisdom) while passive agressively hammering on the Progressives. There are certain people I will still watch like Hayes and Maddow because their shows are informative,

    1. @Joseph Inman so I would just like to know what he trump done to make your life worse. Same with anybody else who is anti trump. Cause hes not a Democrat well here’s what it boils down to the Democrats don’t have a good candidate. Now my next question what have the dems done to make your life better. Don’t just repeat what the anti trump media has to say cause they are blinded by hate.

    2. @Mine Finder “The constitution suggests there may be limitations in both members of a presidential ballot residing in the same state.” You’re listening to conspiracy theories by Drudge! Bloomberg will probably choose someone like Kamala Harris…she’s smart, she’s a woman of color and she will crush Pence in a debate!

  3. Actually Lawrence, Bernie’s policies are the reason I am voting for him. Also, none of the other canindates could go toe to toe with Trump or converting Maga people.

    1. Sen. Sanders needs a strong VP who will work with him. Sen. Elizabeth Warren. Sen. Sanders’s health is in question. It’s extremely important that the VP will follow through working for the people of this nation. THE DEMOCRATIC TICKET SHOULD BE BERNIE SANDERS/ELIZABETH WARREN.

    2. Yeah, chasing the college-educated suburbanite voters back into Republican hands by offering them a lesser-of-two-evils choice where one side is planning to seize their money and control their lives is a great plan to win the election. Moderation only gave Trump’s party one of the worst midterms defeats ever, why would it work here? He’s put the center up for grabs, so why bother to take it when you can double down on getting the support of voters who already hate your opponent?

    1. D.L. Kalberg. Billionaires don’t buy elections. Bloomberg is self funding. Everyone has big money behind them, we just aren’t being asked to fund this person. What should bother you who are concerned is that Trump assured us he was so rich, but was not self funded. He should show his taxes, so we can see where he is coming from. Frankly, aren’t you concerned that a candidate might be controlled by large donations?

    2. @Anne Rodgers NOT AT ALL… ZERO EVIDENCE HE IS… BUMBLEBERG IS SPENDING HIS MONEY TO GET BACK AT PRESIDENT TRUMP FOR DEALS HE WAS BEATEN OUT OF BY DONALD…AND HE IS PROPPING UP THE DNC AT THE SAME TIME…[WHY THEY CHANGED THE RULES FOR HIM]..ISN’T IT FUNNY DEMOCRATS ALWAYS CHANGE THE RULES MIDGAME WHEN LOSING?

  4. Hopefully the next President (Bernie) will have a mountain of Executive Orders ready and waiting for him on his first day in office. Not like Trump did and took a 3 day holiday..

  5. Speaking to some friends in America . I asked the question what is this election about for you ? . 6 of the 8 I asked was they fear Medical bankruptcy . They all knew somebody who this has happened to. They fear the massive burden of Having to sell their homes to cover medical bill’s , the fear of drawing on their pensions early to cover the cost of hospital treatments and last but not least was the burden on their children who are all ready weighed down with student debt. This should be the priority of the media to show account’s such as these .

    1. @Sheila Davidson the whole point of a primary is to pick the right candidate. I dont understand your comment. Do you think candidates should NOT be vetted? Do you think we should wait and let the repugs do it for us later?! Thats just stupid.

    2. @ErykaSoleil thank you! You saved me from some aggravated commenting lol. I don’t know if that comment was just ignorant of how bankruptcy works, or just trolling in bad faith.

    3. bernadette black : You forgot to include the absolute worst part of it: If you can’t pay for the service, you may not receive the treatment you need. No insurance, and not enough cash available to go to a doctor for that bronchitis? Guess you’ll be waiting until it’s bad enough to go to the ER (which I have had to do). Can’t afford to pay for the medication your need because your job’s health insurance doesn’t cover it, or because you work multiple part time jobs with no insurance because that’s all you can find right now? Guess we’ll see you back in the ER soon.

Then there’s the really ugly part: If you can’t pay for something like surgery or specialized medication, you just don’t get it. I have seen friends of mine scramble to raise hundreds of dollars practically overnight when they were told less than a month before scheduled surgery that they would need to pay costs of $500-$800 that no one had mentioned before that point. One friend even went back and checked her paperwork to see if she’d missed it, but it was nowhere to be found. Another had to postpone his surgery to remove his pancreas because he was having trouble raising that money. In the meantime, he had to skip buying medication he needed for mental illness, and lost his job because he was out sick so much (at which point he no longer had insurance, and did not qualify for Medicaid).

That’s not even getting into the truly dark issue of what happens to children who need life-saving medicine or surgeries that their families cannot afford.

I used to work in opinion polling over the phone, and in my time there we did a few healthcare studies. I could tell you some truly horrific, truly heartbreaking stories about what some people have gone through to save themselves, their parents, their children. I spoke with one man whose doctor had asked him if the doctor could write him a larger prescription than he actually needed. The man would pay for the full script, but doctor would pass some of it along to a child whose family could not afford his pills. Because the child was so young, he didn’t need much; but it was still a hundred or so dollars a month that his family couldn’t afford. I can’t remember what the condition was, but it was some heart issue that required medication for the rest of the patient’s life, and this family’s insurance would not cover it. This man told me, “What could I say but yes? I could afford it, and this was a child’s life we were talking about. How could I not help?”

And that really is the question I keep coming back to on healthcare: How can we see so many people literally dying under this system, and not do something to help them?

    4. john basterson : I am totally in favor of helping you pay your medical bills with my taxes, because a) you deserve to have access to medical care, and b) the cost will be paid by small contributions (taxes) from millions of people. It’s the large-scale equivalent of a group if kids pooling their pocket change so Johnny can buy lunch that day.

As a side note, I don’t know how the Oregon government plans work, but here in TN, there is a large chunk of the population that does not qualify for TennCare (Medicaid), despite the fact that they are either unemployed, or covered by crappy insurance that does not cover their specific medical needs (medication for mental illness, for example, is very expensive, and is not usually covered by employers here). They are far too young to qualify for Medicare, and either can’t be covered by their parents’ insurance, or discover quickly that their parents’ insurance also fails to meet their needs. I know a frightening number of people in this situation.

    1. Dead Eye Joe reminds me of that movie where they are pushing a corpse around in a wheelchair pretending it’s still alive.

There should be a law against flogging a dead horse
