Passage of a measure that would protect gay marriage rights nationwide crossed a key threshold Wednesday when the Senate defeated a filibuster and set the stage for final approval shortly.

Senators voted 62-37 to move the Respect for Marriage Act to the Senate for an up-or-down vote in the near future. Sixty votes were needed to overcome the filibuster and send it to the floor.

“Together with broad bipartisan support, the Senate will provide certainty to millions of Americans in loving marriages and enshrine into law the basic protections afforded all Americans while respecting our country's critical principle of religious liberty,” said Arizona Democratic Sen. Krysten Sinema, one of the negotiators for the bill, on the Senate floor prior to Wednesday's vote.

  2. They forgot that they will have to give a account for this bill
God made mankind in his image. He made them them Male and Female. Never good to go above God.

    1. God also let Adam and Eve have incestuous children. Abraham marry his sister. Isaac his cousin. Jacob two cousins and have 2 concubines. Yeah God is very consistent.

    2. *NO. THIS IS THE 21ST CENTURY. BY PASSING OBGERFELL IN 2015, THE SUPREME COURT AND THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY HAVE SENT U.S. AND MESSAGE: GET WITH THE TIMES AND ADAPT TO CHANGE, LIKE EBENEZER SCROOGE AND THE GRINCH DID.*

    3. why don’t you keep your religious beliefs to yourself if all you use them for is to force people to live like you think they should instead of loving everyone as Christ did.

  3. This law goes against God’s law. It is encouraging sin. God sanctified marriage one man one woman. This law is wrong.

    2. Well it’s a damn good thing church and state are separate things then huh? Then being able to marry does not and can not hurt you or your family. See yourself out of reality if it bothers you so much.

    1. Most governments can handle multiple issues at once. What leaders to you follow that this is somehow negative for you?

    1. @DoSe420 *THIS IS THE 21ST CENTURY. BY PASSING OBGERFELL IN 2015, THE SUPREME COURT AND THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY HAVE SENT THE U.S. A MESSAGE: GET WITH THE TIMES AND ADAPT TO CHANGE, LIKE EBENEZER SCROOGE AND THE GRINCH DID. YOU REPUBLICANS ARE NOT INTERESTED IN CHANGE, SO WHY SHOULD AMERICA BE INTERESTED IN YOU?*

    2. @John Lee I’m not interested in the way this world has changed.
      I know it changes.
I’m only interested in God’s word which never changes.
      You know, the truth!
You are free to do whatever, change with the times if you wish.
I’ll stick with God and his word.
Have sex with whomever you choose, even if you wanna do it with a dog. Your choice and your consequences.
      Bye

    3. @Just Beloosen up guy.. do you have male friends? Do you have female friends? Hate to break it to ya.. but your soul is bi AF

    4. @ItsCoolToPeeYourPants
Nope. Never had sex with the same sex ever. That’s all bisexuals are. Homosexuals.
The definition of homosexual is having sex with the same sex.
So, thers really no such thing as bisexual if you even occasionally have sex with the same sex.
      You are just hetorophobic.

  4. No matter what they passed no one will ever respect or acknowledge the marriage of gay’s. I sure as hell don’t

    1. @kira because it’s watering down the meaning of marriage. It’s a symbol of love between man woman and God.

    2. Marriage hasn’t had anything to do with a god since the 1500s. It’s been a contract between two people and the government for centuries

    1. Just like roe v wade, Supreme Court can look into the matter and strike it down, senate and house will officially make into law

    2. When you codify it, it becomes a crime if you refuse doing business with them based on their marriage preference.

    3. @nnamdi philip well you can’t make a church or a private businesses to cater to something that’s against their religion.
      That’s also a constitutional right.

  5. All the issue with the economy and more, and the virtue signal marriage which anyone already can get married.

Marriage is and always has been, a religious ceremony. The government has zero role in who’s married.

    1. @Grey Beard
But in most cases a couple looking for wedding cakes talks about the wedding to their baker.
Most people don’t just walk into a bakery and just say make me a wedding cake and not get into a little of the specifics of the wedding.

So why not just go to your local Publix or something and buy a wedding cake and have them decorate it.
Those are corporations not private right?

    2. @Just Be No. All the baker would be doing is selling a generic wedding cake that they’d sell to anyone without discrimination.

Bakers obviously don’t approve of every wedding that they sell a cake for.

If a gun dealer sells a gun to a person who then chooses to use it for wrong, does that mean the gun dealer approves of that wrong doing?

    3. @Grey Beard
Is being a gun dealer or a gun or having a gun a sin?
Being gay in of itself is not the sin.
      It’s the acting on it.
They just shouldn’t be forced to support sin in anyway whatsoever.
I’m sure they don’t support their own.
Yes we are all sinners. But we don’t have to support it or live in it voluntarily.
So to a religious person doing anything to support another’s sin is what this is about for some religious people.

    4. oh, really why is it that it is only legal for everyone if laws get passed and it is not a religious ceremony it is a binding contract. To be legally married you must get a license. And to get a divorce you must go to court. That is the law in all states.

    5. @Just Be Exactly! Using the gun for evil is the sin, not the selling of a gun to a person.
Same with selling a wedding cake to a gay couple who is getting married. 😊

  6. Question for homosexual non Christian person:
Why would you want to take part in the religious practice of Holy Matrimony where God joins or marries a man and woman, and they become1 ?

I get and understand you want the same rights legally as traditional Christian married couples and i have no issue with govt contracting with you via a civil union so you can have those rights.

But why do you refer to it as marriage or get upset when religious leaders refuse to marry you? It is a religious practice, no different than baptism or taking communion. Will you demand next that the govt baptize you, or govt pass laws requiring the church to baptism you ? And why you, why not everyone, atheists, Buddhists, moslems, the local bowling club, ect ect.

Again, I am not talking about civil unions between you and the govt, I am referring to those of you who demand the church marry you and if they refuse you will seek retribution under the law. Please explain this to me. And why the Christian church, why not go to a Buddhists preists, a moslem imam, or even a native American shaman and demand they join you in what ever form of marriagethey believe in?

This question is for those who fit the criteria or know the answer . Thank you.

    1. @Rory Cannon are you unaware that pastors are refusing to officiate same sex marriages? It is an issue in my town as well as others.

    2. @Dude While there has been an ebb and flow feeling to marriage licenses over the years, it is clear that the documents are here to stay.

No longer associated with the exchange of goods and services between families, the license does have an impact on the economics after the end of a marriage.

In most states, individuals married with the authority of a license must equally share the assets obtained through the course of the marriage should they choose to end the union.

The premise is this: Income and property obtained during a marriage should be shared equitably between the parties who chose to “become one flesh” at the beginning of the blessed union. It makes sense, don’t you think?

Be thankful for marriage licenses, friends. They offer legitimacy to the union in case there happen to be legal issues along the way. Also, the licenses help the states take a good account of their people and their situations in life. And while the church may have frowned on divorce and didn’t grant it. It didn’t stop many from bailing on families and abuse of all sorts. While I am sure in your heart you have very strong feelings about your religion you have to understand others don’t hold the same beliefs and free will is in your bible. Why not let God be the judge like you are supposed to and stop trying to force everyone to comply with your ideas?

    1. Attention all preachers,
Leviticus 20 13 says “anyone who has had homosexual relations should be put to death”
      The word of God.

    2. yes, every time I see a new person come into town the whole town wants to rape them! lol And I can’t go anywhere there is not an orgy going on.

    1. @Owl The Pirate What, you want charts with illustrations? You must be really insecure if my comment set you off. Do you have a safe space with a comfort animal?

    2. @tider77 in the bible it says thats a sin. Along with eating any crustaceans. Along with anti gayness.. all in the same chapter. Also it says you should marry someone of the same yolk. Meaning mixing race is a no no.
It wasn’t that long ago the police would have arrested you and your husband for being in a mixed race 🤔.. its a shame they don’t do this any more as I believe its disgusting to marry someone of the mixed race! You deserve to go to hell for what abominations your both committing! How dare you!

    1. And divorced and have the right to be recognized as a spouse instead of the bigotted family dismissing them from hospitals and funerals and property rights.

  7. Wish these fools could pass a bill on how to reduce grocery and everything else prices! Especially gas! That would really go over great with all us sufferers out here in the F,in real world!

  8. See gay people wanting to get married in a Christian church where one of core teachings forbid it doesn’t make sense. Like go do it in a place where you don’t force people to compromise their own personal beliefs. IDK sounds petty to me.

    1. It isn’t about your silly church wedding it is about the legal binding contracts and protections and benefits of spouses.

  9. To obtain financial freedom, one must either be a business owner, an investor or both, generating passive income, particularly on a monthly basis.

    1. Yes and me too investing is the fastest way to Financial freedom. Investing is building wealth and that has been my priority thanks. 🙏
