Record-breaking rains are expected to flood the Pearl River as evacuations have already begun in Mississippi.

The Pearl River in Jackson may reach 36 feet on Tuesday making some streets impassible and sending water into homes. It could go even higher. Record-setting rainfall occurred in areas of Mississippi on Wednesday and much of that will be flowing in the Ross Barnett Reservoir soon.
"It rained a lot," said John Sigman, reservoir general manager. "When the storm went across the Highway 16 corridor it put 10 inches in Carthage and 12 inches in Walnut Grove. "So, we've got a lot of water coming to us. In the meantime, we got a lot of rain on the reservoir. We don't have any extra storage capacity like we did in 2020."
