Netanyahu to form Israel’s most right-wing government | USA TODAY

Benjamin Netanyahu's election win clears the way for him to form the most right-wing government in Israel's history.

Former Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu appeared headed toward victory Wednesday, with some 85% of the ballots from national elections counted and showing that voters gave him and his far-right allies what looks like a majority in the country's parliament.

Votes were still being counted and results were not final. But if preliminary indications were correct, Israel was potentially headed to its most right-wing government, bolstered by a strong showing from the ultranationalist Religious Zionism party, whose members use inflammatory anti-Arab and anti-LGBTQ rhetoric.

The initial results pointed to a continued rightward shift in the Israeli electorate, further dimming hopes for peace with the Palestinians and setting the stage for possible conflict with the Biden administration and Israel's supporters in the United States. The early results also showed that Netanyahu had overcome his detractors, who claimed he was not fit to rule while on trial for corruption and have refused to sit with him in government. Netanyahu's partners have promised to help him evade a conviction.

  1. The United States pays for 20% of Israel’s military budget while Israel has a space program, universal health care, and still runs a budget surplus for six of the last ten years.

    1. @Ali good point. But you have to keep comment brief and memorable. Did you know aid to Israel violates two American laws? (Symington Amendment and Leahy Law) or that Israel used its access to American military technology and American subsidies to its arms industry to because a major supplier of military technology to Communist China? I’d have to write an entire book to explain to my fellow Americans why they shouldn’t support Israel.

    2. @Mr. S Greatest ally? Israe was useless in both gulf wars, and didn’t help in Afghanistan. They spy on us so much the FBI considers Israel to be the top espionage threat to America. They meddle in our elections and Israel’s sales of military technology to China were instrumental in the modernization of China’s military forces. Israel won’t even sign a mutual defense pact with the United States.

    3. @Corey Smith no not directly i was more so referring to the majority amount of nato that the usa funds while other countries don’t hold up to their obligation of 2% of their gdp. Canada is at 1.23 and the usa is at 3.5. If youre country is on the list of countries that isn’t reaching the agreed 2%i think they should be removed from nato. You dont get to be a member if you aren’t paying your membership dues. Sadly nato would be 5 countries. But if Greece can do it even after going bankrupt Canada and the other freeloaders have no excuse.

    4. @Corey Smith nah if Israel ever fall, don’t wish for a peaceful oil-selling middle east and dominance of America. A necessary evil which sometimes become really evil

    5. @Boy Kulot Why would some cutbacks to American aid to Israel result in Israel’s collapse? They could easily make up the difference. Israel can and should pay for more of its own miliary.

    1. @Sandra McGill Btw I would never describe myself as a son of God even metaphorically, except if there was a Godly permission for it. God has no sons.

    2. @Sandra McGill In my view we are not daughters or sons of God. I follow Islam. We believe in the Torah (like the Jews), the Gospel (like the Christians) and the final revelation which is the Quran. Any mistake that humans created in the Torah and the Bibel doesn’t exist in the Quran. This is why the Quran which has been compiled since more than 1000 years ago is only 1 book that hasn’t been changed.

    3. @Ali cause of your responsibility to society! The cross and hatred of the Creator! metaphorically? Like beauty

    4. @Ali Islam is the upside down of God!Its the worship of the Devil! Its not the same! Tho they parallel their selves in the bible like a wondering snake! Goodnight to you Ali! Good luck to you as well!

    5. @Sandra McGill I love God more than myself. The point is simply that polytheism is the biggest sin. I don’t want to ascribe partners to God. God is unlimited and we humanly sons and daughters are limited. Even if it is said metaphorically it can still cause people to get the wrong understanding that God literally has children which is wrong. We are still allowed to imagine seeing God because God can see us. And when I imagine God I see the most beautiful force that pushes for goodness, power, success, wiseness (especially at hard times)…etc. and I see beauty around me.

  2. Who needs to vote for More Corruption. Hell NoπŸ‘ŽπŸ‘ŽπŸ‘ŽπŸ‘ŽπŸ‘ŽπŸ‘ŽπŸ‘ŽπŸ‘ŽπŸ‘ŽπŸ‘Ž

  3. It’s right wing, extremism, populist.. when it’s the will of the common folk, but is democrat or progressive when it’s the will of the intellectuals, the career politicians, CNN, the New York Times πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚
