i had flu TWICE. first in feb 20-27 and then march 22-27 second flu was actually just tonsillitis and my period stopped the fever

@Denise Manfre’ do you know that its the bodies reaction to coronavrius that causes people to get pneumonia and also die. its called a cytokine storm. this allso happens with flu though far rarer and other coronavirus such as Sars and Mers. for 95% of people covid 19 will be mild for the other 5% it can be life changing or death dealing. How is this surprising? We’ve known how the virus spreads for a while. Did they think that as soon as they turned their attention to it and wrote it down, it appeared? I mean pure logic says that if most cases are barely symptomatic one would never know about them.
@Rich Italy, Spain is nothing?? In both countries for about a month were hospitals completely swamped, and there were around 1000 people dieing a day. As of now they are at 27 000 confirmed casualties due to Covid 19. That’s a fact. It may be that the overall death rate could be far lower. But it definitely is, that death rate among elderly is insane.
I have both parents over 60. What about you, do you not have parents or grandparents that you care about??

CarlosG What I said and meant is that this isn’t that surprising, because how can you calculate mortality rate if you only know a fraction of the denominator. And, it’s still unknown. And I don’t believe there’s one result because everyone seems to miss the fact that economics, circumstance, and so on, will create a variance.

@Jason Yang You and all the other people who commented here survived the worst flu of their life. Who you don’t hear from are the people who didn’t survive. The country wasn’t shut down for nothing. Or is it all about you, like so many other people who comment.
One women lost her 32 year old healthy husband who died of it. She feels guilt because she had it first and infected him, saying, she “just had a sniffle and a mild sore throat.” Days later he was dead. He’s not commenting here.

I think we saw it in Florida in November. All of the kids had high fevers and dry hacking coughs for over 2 weeks
the horse was out of the barn in November in January i had the highest fever in my life i was in the bed shaking for hours

I’m not so sure what it was but back around the end of January I got really sick and my symptoms was: really painful throat, dry heavy cough, fever, really big head aches, at night when I was trying to sleep I thought I was gonna die because I couldn’t breath at all, pain in my chest. And it was really ugly doe. Back then I thought it was just a cold or maybe the flu so I just kept myself home, I kept myself drinking a lot of tea, the ones from the store and home made teas. And eventually I got better with time. that’s god 🙏, but then a week after my sis got sick as well because she was with me the whole time I was sick and she got the same symptoms, she was so bad that we took her to the hospital because she couldn’t breath at all. But she got well too.
now at home couple of weeks ago her boyfriend tested positive with corona virus and even doe I told my sis to kept her distance from him she didn’t listen to me and surprisingly none of us got sick and now he’s recovered and all, I’m not so sure but probably have to do with the fact we got sick back then idk.. tbh, don’t wanna jump into conclusions.
I have to say I’m from nyc and at my job when I got sick I needed to stay at the train station for hours and hours dealing with dozens of people.

i believe it was, peoples been pipe smoking for ages and it seems only americans said its a problem, both are lung peoblems and covid 19 is a much reliable answer! So covid19 outbroke in the US last season 2019 now the US is blaming China, pathetic!
The only problem with that idea is the virus is highly contagious and there would have been a total outbreak like now, back then.
I know America loves blaming everybody else for their woes, though. The outbreak in 1918, started in Kansas and it was through blundering and not wanting to broadcast that piece of info that made it spread across the planet. The only reason it was called the “Spanish flu” is because Spain was one of the few neutral countries at the time and they were the only ones reporting the truth. It did not originate there, that was retaliation for telling the truth.
And now, history is repeating itself. The US is again in denial. I hate seeing the maga trash calling it the Wuhan flu or whatever, they’re clearly parroting what the fox propaganda channel and that orange slime are blathering about. Truman used to say “the buck stops here”, drump says “the buck goes in my pocket and I take no responsibility for any of my own stupidity.”

In January my friend was so sick for like 2 weeks he couldn’t leave his bed, he got tested for the flu but it came back negative, he was given antibiotics but nothing helped we’re pretty sure he had it

That may be but the drastically lower death rate is old news.
Zach Reuter I agree, its been clear for a month that death rates are quite low and original estimates were off by a magnitude of 10-20 times.
i think they’re only acknowledging only because they have too. it goes against the narative of a high death rate. i always got the feeling a lot of these talking heads are quite gleeful at the idea of a high death rate, job loss and the economy tanking. just the way we here in the US report coronavirus deaths… if someone that tested positive for coronavirus, jumped from the top of the sears tower, death due to coronavirus.
It could be a lot earlier. Flu season started around September 2019 and CDC said some of the deaths are caused by Coronavirus, not by the flu virus.
