    1. Oh, he would, in front of cameras. That was just short sight forgetting a succession of popes actually protected criminals and i’m sure he finally remembers now, after having his political memory refreshed, if not updated…

    1. Does that include ALL religions? And th3 concepts of individual rights and freedoms are rooted in Judeo-Christian values- should we simply stop allowing fundamental human rights?

    2. if it was women s day , would it be okay to elogious about women. we cannot eliminate the human being from politics.

  1. Has Francois Legault ever heard about a country called Mexico? Quebec has never been the only Catholic state in North America.

  2. The term “Staunch French Catholic” was and is a reality. I am not even religious but I grew up with that term.

  3. The Christian religion whether it it Catholic, Orthodox or Protestant is based on the principles of the gospels. And Legault is right in that our western society has evolved into what it is today much because it is based on the principles of the gospels. Solidarity is a universal virtue. I see nothing wrong in M. Legault’s statement.

  4. Thing is he’s not wrong.
You don’t get to rewrite history because you don’t like it.

Progress is like a ladder. You climb step by step, building upon what someone else has already accomplished.

If you climb a ladder and cut the rungs you’ve already climbed because they are no longer of value or offensive, you no longer have a ladder.
You have wobbly stilts held ridgid by the current opinion that you cling to for dear life, If you sever it to try to maintain ballance you fall, if you hold fast you fall.
Either way you are in a very bad place of your own making.

  5. Legault is a pequiste at heart and always will be but with that being said he isn’t wrong as he is refering to the history of the Catholic church in Quebec. As for the reporters and everyone complaining they are ignoring that fact as would be expected. However just for everyone here questioning about religion in schools the Catholic church had it written into the constitution that the Roman Catholic religion can have seperate school boards from the public schools. (the reason that hasn’t been challenged in Quebec is obviously because of the not withstanding clause) Hence when I was a child we had Catholic and Protestant schools here in Quebec. There are still one or two “catholic” schools in Quebec as well as Jewish “day schools” in Montreal because after all money truly does talk when it comes to religion.

  6. Whats wrong with having a prayer room, it can be used by everyone, regardless of religion or no religion.

    1. @Moltenink That’s not what it is. It’s “you can’t pray on government institutions like public schools”.

  7. A prayer room is fine, all Canadians have the right to practice their own religion… Just keep all religions out of the actual classroom please.

  8. If all religion was never publicly spoken about and practiced in the privacy of ones home the world would be a better place.
