President Biden signs executive order for more access to abortion care | USA TODAY

President Joe Biden signed an executive order aimed at making it easier for women seeking abortions to travel between states to get to abortion care.

President Joe Biden said "the fight is not over" as he signed a new executive order Wednesday that would support individuals traveling out state for an abortion.

Biden’s executive order directs Secretary of Health and Human Services Xavier Becerra to consider actions that would expand access for individuals seeking reproductive healthcare services, including expanding Medicaid to cover travel costs.

However, the executive order will not result in any immediate policies being implemented. And, it's unclear how the Hyde Amendment – a long-standing prohibition on using federal funds for abortion – could interfere with actions as a result of the executive order.

White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said Wednesday the actions that HHS comes up with will not violate the Hyde Amendment. "The Hyde Amendment is law and we're going to follow that law."

The action comes after the Supreme Court in June issued a ruling that overturned the landmark 1973 Roe v. Wade, which established a constitutional right to abortion.

During the signing Wednesday, Biden applauded Kansas voters for rejecting an amendment that would have allowed the Republican-controlled state Legislature to put new restrictions on the procedure or prohibit it entirely. He also praised the Justice Department for suing the state of Idaho for a near-total ban on abortion.

Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris also convened the first interagency task force on reproductive healthcare access along with Becerra and Jennifer Klein, director of the White House Gender Policy Council.

    1. Well, he did make a boom boom in his diaper the other day. Then he yelled “My Butts Been Wiped” to the reporters.

  1. 1) this does nothing, all it does is allow abortions in federal lands, not state, which makes up about 30% of the US. 2) he can’t pass a bill that would effect the other 70% of the land because the supreme court ruled it is not the federal government’s place to decide on abortion.

    1. @Zoom ShakaLaka how so? Women don’t get punished. Doctors do for performing an illegal abortion and I’ve never heard any republican nor anybody for that matter state she “deserved it.” even then what’s strange is that she wasn’t allowed because of her age despite the law stating allow it in case of danger to the mother.

    2. @ΜΟΛΩΝ ΛΑΒΕ
It’s the situation you guys caused. Of course it would be better if everyone minded their own business, but certain people’s version of religion convinces them that they can make women’s decisions for them.

  2. Hey Joe, what happened to all that Democracy you were talking about? Kansas just proved a true democracy yesterday by giving the issue back to the people for a vote, yet here you are doing exactly what you claimed Trump as: a dictator for legislating through executive orders.

    1. I find it crazy that crazy people like you don’t care about the mother’s life or even a baby’s life being born deformed.

  3. So why even have laws or a supreme court then?? IF you are just going to rule by EDICT, then why even have the branches of Gov? Why not just make the President a King?

    1. Why bother honoring edicts from SCOTUS judges who committed perjury, or are religiously biased? 😝

    2. Imagine being forced to get a shot in order to keep your job.. then claim – muh body, muh choice.
