I got followed several times while surfing, mostly off the coast of Southern California, through the 60’s, 70’s, and 80’s. Not fun!
Shark was going for the water bottle… he was thirsty.

A word of advice. When confronted by a shark, not hit it with a paddle or punch it in the nose. A shark’s primary weakness is screaming.

Oh My God! It would be terrifying to see that thing from the bow of a yacht, but in a kayak! That was the most aggressive attack I’ve seen on a kayak.

Aw, man. Hawaiian monk seals are the single most endangered pinniped on earth. Sucks that if this guy’s right, there’s now one less seal in Hawaii. I had the unbelievable blessing of seeing 2 out of the 8-10 remaining seals on Maui a few months ago. They’re incredible animals.
And also— HOLY CRAP!! I spend as much time as I can in Hawaiian waters and love sea kayaking…and I 100% would have simultaneously screamed and soiled myself if this happened to me!! This guy’s lucky AF!

Wow. Imagine if the boat had turned over, and the boater was splashing widely to get back on board. The shark would have turned around for another bite or two.
