Smoke from Australia bushfires seen from space

Two Australian states are bracing for a day of "catastrophic" risk as firefighters battle over 100 deadly active bushfires that have produced clouds of smoke seen as far away as New Zealand.
Thousands of people are in the paths of the blazes in the states of Queensland and New South Wales, which have both declared a state of emergency.

    1. @Jason G clearly you don’t know this but global warming is an effect of climate change, jeez you must be terrible at your job if you don’t know this stuff, I’m way above you mate.

    2. V3X Actually it is two very different things but you can’t wrap your head around it. Lol so no response to the FACTS I just wrote in my previous comment??? Lol thought so.

    3. @Jason G climate change is change of climate over a long term, and global warming is… Well global warming, your ignorant and should be fired considering you lack of knowledge in this

    4. @Jason G But any way, we are getting off topic, humans caused global warming and climate change is stronger because of it, end

    1. Thanks a lot sadly 3 people are all ready gone 🙁 and so many houses are gone ,don’t make me the mention the poor koalas 🐨

    2. Terry Jackson to be honest I wish I could chuck you in to the flame and watch u burn

      Just stop

  1. I’m in Newcastle NSW, smack bang in the CATASTROPHIC area, and I’m on the coastline. We were placed on water restrictions weeks ago. We’re dry af here 🙁

    1. @AmyM& Beauty Different fires, different fuels, different wind patterns and disbursement snotty. Some smoke mainly goes up and at ground level aren’t horrible, terrain features can affect if the smoke disperses or thickens.
So, do you still feel like Superior Sheila?

    2. @Adam Colorado here, mountainous and forests. (5 climate zones) that’s too close! I pray that as of this post you all aren’t homeless!

    3. @AmyM& Beauty the sky is legit filled with smoke making it hard for many people to breathe. Like I’m from mt druitt and the sky was fully filled with smoke and the closest fire to us was on in castle hill which is like 45 min to 1hr away from mt druitt

    1. @Lilac Lizard Gum trees have always been combustible like this, helped along through evolution via Aboriginals controlled burning over the last 60,000 years

    2. @zhukie The leaves are highly combustible, but Aboriginal people burnt so frequently that there wasn’t enough heat in the fire to let it “crown”, therefore the leaves very rarely ignited in the past.

btw fun bit of trivia, it’s even longer than 60,000 years ago, European scientists dismiss any evidence that doesn’t fit with what they have decided they know eg when humans left Africa, but pollen evidence says firestick farming started 130,000 years ago in Australia https://www.jstor.org/stable/2398672?seq=1#page_scan_tab_contents so the plant & animal evolution is double the time you suggested & 4 times longer than the numbers many put out there!

  2. There should be an international response to Australia given the nature of the severity of the fires, we should not ever wait and need to see smoke from space. stay safe Australia!

    1. @Not XpertThief ? that’s fabulous and thanks for letting me know. I’m not in the Kamloops area and did not know. Way to go guys, and thank you!

KAMLOOPS (NEWS 1130) – As wildfires are tearing up southeastern Australia, it looks like they’ve reached out to the BC Wildfire Service to take a look at how things are going.

Fire Information Officer Kyla Fraser tells Radio NL in Kamloops that Canada will know soon if resources will be asked to go there.https://www.citynews1130.com/2019/11/13/b-c-prepares-to-australia/ help works both ways, right?

    2. I live in Australia and koalas have gone extinct but at least we don’t have to go to school because of the smoke

    1. @Lilac Lizard fair enough. They do have their moments. And I do watch them. But every now and again theres a Today Tonight level of drama and theres still far to much unnecessary stirring and bending of the facts to get a story for my liking.

    2. @jeremy ray I am Aussie also. I was replying to a USA person.
Yes our Media is not perfect but it is 100 times as balanced as USA Media.
They blatantly take one side or the other. Ours can lean one way but not be completely one sided.
From what I have seen the Reporting on the fires has been very good. Overall our Politicians also except the Leader of the Greens.

    3. @Peter Newbranch our political system is different than the U.S. go over to watch friendlyjordies to understand more about what is actually happening in our country. Also the liberals in Australia are the conservative party.

  3. We hit 48c last summer down in Melb Vic, hottest day I’ve experienced in my 47 years. it’s been getting hotter each year & winters milder, I wonder if we’ll crack 50 this year… It’s stunning how pollies say little ol us changing our ways won’t change anything but then they always live by the slogan at election time ‘every vote counts’.

    1. Guy Barwood never thought about that, very good point. This drought is so long and heartbreaking. I wonder when it will ever end.

    1. Funny that it’s mainly middle class and lower middle class committing arson and disobeying firebans which are causing a lot of the fires

  4. Australian weather conditions are always dry and hot but never in my years of living have I seen it like this , hundreds of schools have been shut down and there are 80kmh winds paired with 40 degree temperatures and in multiple suburbs you can’t see anything but the colour red and it’s genuinely scary, it’s not nice to see your home country burning.

    1. Thanks for this. It was terrible. There was a fire 900 metres from my house and the worst part is that it is basically always arson

  5. Some firies were going to get fuel for the engines and the government cards were being declined so they were buying fuel for the fire engines out of their own pockets. Those fire fighters are cheered as hero’s when we have town parades here.
The political debate during this has been idiotic. It’s been terrifying, hundreds of schools were closed, and there are still terrible fires burning now with more hot weather on the way. And our summer doesn’t start until December!

  6. *JESUS WARNED ABOUT ALL THIS, ITS PURPOSE IS TO BRING PPL TO REPENTANCE N THEREFORE BE SAVED!!! REPENT AUSTRALIA REPENT BELIEVE ON JESUS HOLY NAME N BE SAVED THY IN THY HOUSEHOLD ACTS **16:31*

  7. Thanks to everyone in the states for your thoughts and prays, and a big shout out to our rural fire services for battling day and night to try and contain these fires.
