What makes you think that humans will still be around 100 years from now?
@michaelthemovieman ah so the polar ice caps melting at an alarming rate? Which causes the oceans to rise? Which causes places that are below sea level (like Miami) to slowly but surely be swallowed up by the ocean? Scientists and reporters have been talking about that for YEARS because it’s been happening a little bit at a time.
And this summer was only the hottest summer in Europe EVER recorded. About ten years ago scientists predicted what the temperatures would be around this year if climate change continued to worsen…Their guesses were still lower than the actual temperatures that hit and killed many people, plants, and animals.
Now plant and animal life are severely affected by climate change. It takes animals hundreds if not thousands of years when adapting to their new environment (example the different subspecies of Galapagos turtles & how their shells around the head and neck have formed). But animals don’t get that time to adapt and evolve naturally when the planet is changing this fast. There is a very delicate food chain/ecosystem on this planet. When a species of plants or animals can’t survive & goes extinct it causes a domino effect. (Ex: palm oil being in everything and how severely over harvesting the plant is killing it’s ecosystem) (also the amazon rainforest).
Garbage Island isn’t going away. The plastic is only breaking down into smaller and smaller pieces. Sea creatures eventually eat it and we eat them. Where I live, because of all the oil rigs CONSTANTLY screwing up and causing oil spills there are serious warnings about eating certain sea life. Shrimp had black all in their bodies from the oil. It is gross and horrifying!
It’s not fear mongering, it’s the truth. It only causes fear because this doesn’t have a happy ending for humans.
