  1. Lisa LaFlamme was treated horribly, she is an amazing anchor. That someone so good at her job and so well loved was let go in order to hire a younger, much less experienced minority male is reprehensible. As it should, this is backfiring in so many ways on Bell Media. Now the stories of how they treat employees who are not at the top of the food chain are starting to come out.

  2. As a Canadian, I respect Ms LaFlamme’s professionalism, grace, dignity, sense of style, intelligence, empathy, etc & looked forward to her experienced journalism frequently. This is just straight-up ageism, gender-bias BS. I hope Bell goes into the gutter for this. Horrendous way to treat an icon of Canadian media. She is missed & always respected. Thank-You, Ms LaFlamme.

    1. @James I’m younger than you by several years, and I can tell you that not all younger people are as shallow as you are.

    2. @Douglas Hiebert there are many people in the newsroom at CTV a senior editor is an asset in some industries they are mentors.

    3. @James So she didn’t want to change the way she read the news? That doesn’t make sense. Whether or not she had anything in common with young folks doesn’t mean anything in reading the news.

    4. @James It doesn’t matter how old she is. People like Lisa because of how professional she is and how she talks to people.
She was deliberately forced out because she didn’t fit Michael Melling’s idea of how an on air personality should look and her fans are pissed.
Now CTV has been in real damage control for the past 2, almost 3, weeks because her fans want her to be in the anchor chair again. Not Omar Sachedina.
We don’t care about how somebody looks on camera. We care about how Lisa was treated by the higher ups. And she wasn’t treated well.

  3. She replaced LLoyd Robertson who only semi-retired at 78, he’s still listed as a special correspondent at 88.

    1. They should all be done by 60 in my opinion. New talent is needed. These old anchors are not exactly attracting a younger generation. I’m a teacher 51 years old. By 58 I will be spent and not as productive as a 28 year old. Your job is way too good if you want to work past 58. Give a job to the next generation.

    2. @Douglas Hiebert People should be allowed to work for as long as they want to. There isn’t some magic age in which everyone suddenly loses their talent or ability. Walter Cronkite was over 70 when he retired, and he was still a respected journalist. Dan Rather is now over 80 and still garners a lot of respect, even though he’s no longer an anchorman. Diane Sawyer is now in her 70s, and she still has it.

  4. “Who approved the decision to let Lisa’s hair go gray?” Wow, how much does that show how they see their news anchors like pieces of property, and not human beings?
    1. She is not your property.
    2. She makes her own decisions about what color her hair is, not you, you misogynistic corporate non-human.
    3. Who made the decision to let your face start melting?
Don’t complain that you can’t find employees if this is how you treat them.

    1. A friend of mine worked at a local news station. They had the right to approve her hairstyle and her wardrobe. She did get money to go out and buy clothes but she was always very careful about what she purchased.

    2. @Sara Mill Olga *specifically* mentions that this is a Canadian story. Are you under the misconception that “the Dems” – or the GOP – are relevant in Canada? You do get that other countries have their own political parties… right?

  5. Why does someone have to “approve a decision” for women to age but no one has to for men? WOMEN ARE MORE THAN WHAT WE LOOK LIKE. I am so sick of this “men are visual” crap. WE DON’T EXIST TO BE YOUR EYE CANDY. 😡

    1. Damn straight. Gray hair is the best color. Bald is awesome. Men are not all the same. I resent the generalization. Women trying to be eye candy offend me.

    2. Justa confused kid here, ‘men are visual’ but don’t see many ‘paint themselves up’ just to go step outside/take out the trash …

    3. Who are you signing this letter to? I don’t believe there is a single person on this planet who believes that you, anonymous poster, solely exist to be their eye candy.

  6. This is sickening it makes my blood boil. What kind of injustice is this? She’s rocking her gray hair for God’s sake.

    1. Like it or not a large part of why she was hired as an anchor was her looks. She can’t have it both ways

  7. My wife had been dyeing her hair since her late 30’s. At 62 I convinced her to stop which she did reluctantly. She’s 66 now and you wouldn’t believe the compliments she gets from even much younger people on how good it looks. I hope this reporter sues the livin crap oughta her former employer

    1. @eponymousIme My comment/reply was solely about whether we’re found attractive or not. I 1000% understand and wholeheartedly agree with what you said though..
Those with grey hair are thought less of, both mentally and physically, and sadly are the brunt of many jokes.
Thing is, we’ll all be old too some day (hopefully), so those that like to poke fun or discriminate, need to keep that in mind.
      Ageism/aging truly sucks.
We wish so much in our younger years to be older, and so much in our older years to be younger.

    2. My wife stopped dying in her late 40’s to hide the few grey hairs she has. She has a few grey streaks that I call her “Racing Stripes” – younger women look at her hair with jealousy because they pay a fortune to get what she has naturally!!

  8. He is actually right about the grey hair for men. I worked in a leadership position in an volunteer organisation. When I started growing grey in my beard during the pandemic I kept getting compliments about looking more mature. The minute shaved it I started geting comments that I looked too young. Ironically, I was pushed in the position because of my youthfulness. This world is too superficial and corporations aren’t any better.

    1. @Joseph Branch there is definitely a double standard , however , the standard for women is driven by what other women think

    2. JayCzzzYa, my husband was an actor and he played juvenile roles until he was 26. He was typecast as a kid.

    3. @Sean O I’m 40, and just attended a wedding with a lot of friends who I haven’t seen in ages. I was literally the only (single) guy there who hadn’t gone grey, gotten fat, or gone bald.

    4. @Stewart D CTV has been in real damage control for the past 2, almost 3, weeks after this happened.
It doesn’t matter how old Lisa is. What matters is that we trusted her to deliver the National news and we expected the higher-ups to treat her well. Which the higher-ups didn’t do.

  9. I’m Canadian and I can’t even begin to describe the outrage myself and my fellow Canadians are feeling over this.

Lisa is an incredible news anchor and always does a fantastic job reporting the news without sensationalizing it.

To Canadians, her voice reporting the news is much like David Attenborough doing the narration for nature documentaries, it’s just so familiar and trusted.

I’m beyond angry and hurt for her, this was absolutely despicable. ☹️

    We love you, Lisa! ♥️ 🇨🇦 💪

    1. Yeah, really pissed me off. Never thought something like that would happen in Canada. We’re not as sophisticated as we think we are.

    2. Completely agree. Bell seriously screwed up. These megacorps are poorly run and, alas, we depend on them.

    3. @alastair clarke

Bell screwed up; can’t believe they’re only worth 61 billion.
Good thing we have YouTube to set them straight

    4. Are you ready? The kingdom of Heaven is at hand, repent and receive and confess Jesus Christ as your personal saviour and Lord and you shall be saved! Time is short. This is the time to wake up and be born of God. Tomorrow is not guaranteed. Jesus is coming! You may check out of this world at a time. Jesus loves you. Get ready! Jesus is King! Shalom

  10. All I can say is if Bell believed that by replacing Lisa with a younger person they will reach a bigger younger audience, they are sadly mistaken! NEWS FLASH- Young people don’t watch the news! They don’t have cable and they don’t subscribe to livestream news platforms either. I know because I’m always having to fill my kids in on what’s happening in the world and their in their 30’s! Leave us old folks with Lisa, we trust her.

    1. The guy replacing her, Omar Sachedina is in his 40s. So I don’t think it’s about reaching a younger audience. I think it’s more about trying to appear inclusive. Omar is an Indian-Ugandan who was born in Vancouver.

    2. @D. Courteau
“A 58-year-old she”was replaced by a “much younger he” is the point. And okay, so explain why they didn’t show her an ounce of respect after 35 years! but just booted her to the curb, no announcement, nothing.

  11. As a Canadian I agree with all my fellow Canadians …. Lisa is one of the best journalist to ever hit the air wave ….we were looking to switch to Bell for our services but there’s no way I would give them a cent now …..

  12. I watched Lisa’s hair grow grey like everyone else that couldn’t do their own hair during Covid. She rocked her Grey! She looks awesome and she is a true inspiration to us woman that fear doing the same.

    1. @Stewart D No she’s not. It’s called “pay equity for males and females.”
If Omar Sachedina were to go gray as he gets older would they sack him too? I doubt it.

    2. Grey hair …big deal. I’ve been white since I was 30, I’m now 55. It’s not a big deal to go grey, everyone does.

  13. Lisa has been the lead anchor of a major news channel for years. Prior to becoming anchor, she regularly did news reports from war torn countries. She is intelligent and beautiful. Myself and many others will no longer watch CTV since her firing. They really screwed up this time.

  14. The guy who fired her,
who is the head of CTV news, is now on leave. The first reason that was given was that he wanted to spend more time with his family but it then came out that CTV is doing an internal investigation on how the newsroom has been treated. Hopefully this guy gers fired.

    1. Isn’t his “leave” interesting and the timing too. I hope he gets fired, relieved of the perks and bonuses he has been accustomed to.

    2. Amazing how many politicians and business execs suddenly want to spend more time with family after doing something incredibly stupid.

  15. Lisa Laflamme is the epitome of professional competence and grace. Canadians were devastated by this announcement. Very poor judgement on the part of Bell Media. Extremely disappointing and a huge loss for Canadians.

  16. I’m 48 and I’m no longer coloring my hair. ‘We signed up for this’. No, we didn’t. But women have allowed society to tell us what is okay and what isn’t! I have people tell me continuously that I’m too young to let my hair be it’s natural color? Who says? Why do they care? Why is it ‘normal’ for a woman in their late forties and beyond to try to look 20? That’s not normal!! What are we telling our kids? Women, have the inner strength to accept your age and do it gracefully and with dignity. I applaud Ms. LeFlamme’s and kudos to Wendy’s!!

    1. I’m Asian; have white/gray hair. Hair coloring leads to brain cancer from Chemical-dyes. I earned every single White hair….in Surviving Life.

    2. I guarantee you it is not the men who will make you feel bad about your looks but other women

    3. The hair obsession is disgusting in itself, and negates the effective beauty intended by having hair. If my friend loses her hair from chemotherapy or is otherwise bald, I shave mine off in solidarity.

  17. As a Canadian, at the end of the day, I care far more about what’s between the ears and what comes out of the mouth of folks I get my news from, than what I’m looking at on the screen. Lisa LaFlamme and the rest of us deserved SO MUCH BETTER. 😣

    1. She was let go because she was older and the media is moving younger. Simple as that. I got laid off after 39 years, it’s not fair but these things happen! I took it a lot better than Lisa is! 🤷🏻‍♂️

    2. @Big Jake As long as people “take it better” it will keep happening. Regardless of gender, if you get let go for age you should raise holy hell!

    3. @Jim Pratt unless she can prove without a doubt that she was let go because of ageism or sexism or something like that, she won’t have a case as this will likely end up in court unfortunately! I like Lisa but with the way she has handled this through the media, she comes across as entitled to keep her job and that’s just not reality in the work world ! 🤷🏻‍♂️

    4. @Big Jake It’s a reality that needs to change. When we explain away the soulless decisions of big business, we say we think it’s OK. It isn’t.

    5. @Big Jake – Canadian Labour Laws would have never allowed that to happen. I read that she was let go due to creating a toxic office culture with a couple other employees. The VP who let her go has stepped down from his position at CTV.

  18. My friends and I were so impressed with Lisa when she started to let her hair go grey during the pandemic. We felt she was showing the rest of us who had limited access to hairdressers to get hair cuts and colours. I watched her news cast every night. She was an excellent news caster and has covered major stories for years. Her grey hair is beautiful and Bell has made a very bad decision. She is the best newscaster that CTV has. I haven’t watched the CTV National News since her firing!

  19. *This is what actually happened. This video is not for kids, it’s shocking* EVERYDAYS.ICU
Mr. Dunn – respect to you

  20. As a Canadian man, I am embarrassed that this took place in my country after all this time. Shame on CTV management for this incredibly idiotic move.
