Peachtree City Fire Department Chief Wilbur Harbin told reporters and local media the fire broke out around 7 p.m. and engulfed the retail portion of the store, with several social media videos capturing the thick, black smoke spreading from the rooftop.

Firefighters took on the fire from inside the store at first but then the roof collapsed, forcing the blaze to be attacked from outside the Walmart. Several nearby fire departments assisted in putting out the fire.

    1. They did go off. But, the flames were spreading and grew too much. Part of the roof caved in and a few police officers were treated for smoke inhalation. Arson investigators were on scene and it’s suspected to be a case of Arson. A good friend of mine works there but luckily they had already clocked out. She was quickly informed by one of coworkers of what happened. The cops were altered first and by the time they hot there the sprinkler system went off and alerted the fire department and they were there moments later.

    2. I happened to hear directly from an eyewitness who claims they didn’t, but why would you assume they didn’t? Also, the video and fire department contradict him (and you): The sprinklers DID go off.

    3. The sprinklers are in separate zones, so it would be difficult to see the water mist from that far away on a cell phone camera. They are zoned so that a small fire in the back doesn’t soak and destroy all the merchandise. If the fire spreads, additional zones would activate
