Winnipeg murders: Operations at landfill paused amid outrage

A landfill north of Winnipeg where the remains of two victims of an alleged serial killer are believed to be located will pause operations.

Premier Heather Stefanson and Winnipeg Mayor Scott Gillingham announced Thursday that the Prairie Green Landfill will pause operations at the request of the province, in response to the deaths of four Indigenous women.

Winnipeg police previously said investigators believe the remains of Morgan Beatrice Harris, 39, and Marcedes Myran, 26, are in this landfill, but said a search for them would not be feasible.

  1. After the trucks are emptied, the piles they leave are spread out by bulldozers & front end loaders with spiked steel wheels, then compacted. Bodies would be turned to shredded hamburger & spread like jam on bread. Could cadaver dogs even pick up a scent with all the other decay? In winter, on top of everything else? How do you keep the dogs from getting hurt ? Smh it’s a lose/lose scenario.

    1. Your perspective is the message that police need to be explaining. The reactions seem to be based upon a false notion that there are intact corpses present, which is simply not the case.

    1. @NastyFuhk What a dumb argument on your part. Does he get paid to do it? Does he help in investigations? Paperwork? No, but you want to use him not working for the police as a counter argument? Moronic

  2. any reasonable person knows this isnt about racism.
    That is ludicrous and stupid.
Its about combing a junk yard landfill with a fine tooth comb for month and finding one tooth, if they are lucky, after yrs of searching and millions of dollars.

    1. If it was your mom that died, would you want her body rotting in a garbage dump or would you want to give her a proper funeral?

  3. Go sift the landfill yourselves. As a taxpayer, I am not gonna help pay for something that will possibly not even bring up the remains of the women, let alone the hazards those workers will face sifting through all that garbage. not to mention the ground is frozen over too, making it much more difficult to locate the bodies and having to thaw out every piece to see if there are remains in the frozen clumps of removed garbage.

  4. I feel bad the died but you will never find anything after 11years of garbage being put on top of them, asking this is like asking to please search for the missing bodies from the titanic also

  5. I have doubts that any remains could be found by digging, and if they were they’ll wish they hadn’t been. I think the approach h to use might be to take some core samples in likely locations. And if anything human shows up; test for DNA. At least some confirmation could be had.

    1. @Stephen Walton Just set up some super tall and powerful UV lights and then get a plane to spray the dump so you can see what turns blue

  6. There is 1000s of animal remains mixed in, then buried 30ft deep in mud, it’s impossible to find bodies at this point.

  7. This has been a long time coming they been never looking for our missing sisters I pray for the families of all missing and murdered Woman I hope one day they start looking for these woman

  8. by spring, most Winnipegers (gulag prisoners) will finally escape Manitoba & the property values will justifiably plummet to zero … forever.
