1. Fauci admitted the US funded the Wuhan Institute of Virology (though a sub-grant). He only admitted that after denying that the US directly funded it.
2. Fauci admitted that the US conducted gain of function research (in the US). He only admitted that once he denied that the NIH conducted gain of function research in the Wuhan Institute of Virology.
3. Fauci admitted the US shared gain of function research with the Wuhan Institute of Virology. He didn’t admit that until pressed by Senator Paul.
4. Fauci admitted that there is a not insignificant possibility that COVID (which has killed over 4 million people) was created (through the use of gain of function research) in the Wuhan Institute of Virology and released.

By not providing the entire quote, you are cherry picking to try to push your narrative.

@steve jette My 2 cents (watch it for yourself to make up your own mind): Dr Fauci was not transparent, equivocating that the NIH (specifically) did not fund (directly) gain of function research (which he narrowly defined) at Wuhan Institute of Virology (specifically). When Sen Paul pressed Dr Fauci:
– Dr Fauci admitted the NIH funded gain of function research (in the US).
– Dr Fauci admitted that he knew gain of function research was shared with the Wuhan Institute of Virology.
– Dr Fauci admitted supporting the Wuhan Institute of Virology through a sub-grant from the EcoHealth Alliance (not directly from the NIH).
– Dr Fauci admitted that there is a not insignificant possibility that COVID was created and released from the Wuhan Institute of Virology.
So, bottom line: there is a possibility that NIH funded research from the US was used to create COVID-19 at the Wuhan Institute of Virology where it was, in turn, released. To further complicate Dr Fauci’s life, his gain of function research was stopped under the Obama administration and restarted under the Trump administration through a loophole that stated “an exception from the research pause may be obtained if the head of the U.S. government funding agency determines that the research is urgently necessary to protect the public health or national security.'” Dr Fauci signed off of the exception to restart the banned gain of function research.
Obviously, not a simple issue of a personality clash between Sen Rand Paul and Dr Fauci as CNN would like to spin this.
