66 Miles Through the Darién Gap

The Biden administration is expecting an influx of asylum-seekers to arrive at the US-Mexico border next month once Title 42 is lifted. But even before they arrive in Mexico, some migrants must journey through the Darién Gap, a perilous stretch of jungle connecting Central and South America. In today’s episode, we hear from a CNN reporter who made that trek alongside a group of everyday people who were willing to risk treacherous terrain, extortion and violence to get one step closer to America.

Guest: Nick Paton Walsh, CNN Chief International Security Correspondent

  1. The gap was intentionally not completed. Can you imagine the flow of immigrants into North America if it was completed?

    1. It’s more like it is intentionally not closed off from the cartels. 😂 it obviously has infrastructure set up.

    2. @Franklin The main problem is that human slavery has never left and still here but in a different way. We all are born with a number,go to school to train to be a slave in a good way and then work for the rest of your life only for them to take most of it out of your check to make you keep working. If that’s not slavery/human trafficking/prostitution,I don’t know what is🤣💀. Until we all come together and say enough is enough with human slavery, get back to school/work slave!

    2. @HelloUnedjucatedSnowflakes I am from Pakistan and I actually meant that since my childhood I like to go to America, I wanted to see places like Disneyland and Hollywood, I wanted to visit NY, and a lot more let’s keep it short and I reached my 40’s but I cannot go there and fulfil my dreams. I even have higher degree in computer science and I work as a software developer…😢😭

    1. @Andi o3i Desperation causes it. Think about what will happen when living in Florida, for instance, will become increasingly impossible because of flooding. Where will all of those people go?

    2. @Yvonne Plant I’m not sure why you think florida will be uninhabitable. Do you? What future predictions have florida being uninhabitable and how long away is that?

    3. @Yvonne Plant  At a certain point, you have to fix your home country. Not just abandon it leaving it to be broken forever. It isn’t going to be fixed for them. Mass amounts of people leaving is only destabilizing the region even more.

  2. So sad! They are all brothers and sisters of ours, how can we do this and how can we solve it?

  3. Darien is Hell on Earth and the reason there have been several failed attempts of building any connection to Colombia. Panama has responded to the refugee crisis since back in the 80’s. Nowadays it has programs and partners supporting refugees and asylum seekers.
Together with Costa Rica, it has long been a haven where they seek political freedom and economic stability. Others are just stuck in any of both countries due to border barriers beginning in Nicaragua. Unfortunately, there is so much these two countries can do as long as the Cartels are in power.

    1. The probelm is that there was never a real war against cocaine, never did we see f15’s dropping bombs on cocaine labs.

  4. I’m going to be honest with everyone, I’m a born Canadian first from my family. North America use to be a great place to live but it hasn’t been for so many years. There are so many countries that are much better and north americans have been leaving to live there. I also left the country and I loved my life aboard. Unfortunately because I was alone, I came back to my family… Sometimes I feel like I came back to early. We pay so much taxes here and get nothing in return, not even safety on the streets.. it’s sad what our great country has become.

  5. BREAKING NEWS: Davids Bridal to shutter their doors after Democrat men in America give up chasing the opposite sex and just decide to become one…

  6. The first thing these foreign nationals did when they stepped across the border into the United States, was to become criminals and violate America’s immigration law. Our present immigration law was the signature legislation of former Democratic icon, Senator Ted Kennedy.
These individuals who crossed the border in violation of our immigration law, should be immediately sent back to their home country. The previous administration had an excellent partnership with Mexico, as well as central and south American countries to stem the flow of illegal immigration. The previous Administrations, “remain in Mexico policy” worked very well, and only those people who met the immigration criteria were allowed into the USA. The Mexican government supported this policy.
We had so much hope for Joe and his new administration however, the first thing he did was to illuminate many of the policies that brought a supercharged economy to the USA, and greatly reduce the flow of illegal foreign nationals into the United States.

    1. The previous administration displaced children from their parent and kept them in cages . We did not have a great relationship with Mexico , and Sputh America.I am an American expat living in a South American country and know first hand accounts of people who have made it to the US, over the years..got their green cards and eventually citizenship . They are productive and contribute to America as citizens. My understanding is the majority of Americans have no clue about foreign countries given that only 3 % have passports. The attitude that this is my Country , and the ignorance and self righteousness in the US about the lives of immigrants is astounding given that America is built and occupied by immigrants.

  7. Charge Congress who vote for and own EV stocks. If you can’t use your car. Think EV’s need air in all tires to run.

  8. How and why is it that those people can walk through several countries ,walking or hitching train rides to bang on the back door of the United States?…How does that work.?..Most travelers need a passport to walk, run,or fly through most counties..South America to the back door of America,..Some nations must slack as hell..😳
