Our present problems started after Ronald Reagan’s FCC abolished the Fairness Doctrine in 1987, a policy that required the holders of broadcast licenses to both present controversial issues of public importance and to do so in a manner that was honest, equitable, and balanced. It has been this singular act that has really served to create these self-serving loudmouth talk radio personalities and their echo chambers that have divided the country and continue to disseminate lies and promote chaos with the goal of causing the people of America to lose faith in our democracy and our institutions, including the media, that prop up that democracy.
