‘Abbott Elementary’: A funny show about serious issues

ABC’s newest sitcom “Abbott Elementary” has quadrupled its rating since its debut. But CNN reporter Lisa Respers France says the show’s creator Quinta Brunson is bringing more than laughs — she’s teaching us something. “Abbott Elementary” is about a group of dedicated teachers in Philadelphia who are dealing with a lot of the same issues real teachers face across America. Brunson is well known for her previous role on “A Black Lady Sketch Show” and the self-produced Instagram series “Girl Who Has Never Been on a Nice Date.” Brunson’s new show also stars Tyler James Williams and Sheryl Lee Ralph.

Watch “Pop Off" with Lisa Respers France for a sassy, no-nonsense take on entertainment and real life's biggest issues on CNN’s YouTube channel.

    1. You like this piece of crap…in sure the episode when they pick on the dorky white guy was your favorite

  1. Wow!! This is awesome, I never knew this show existed… and love how it’s based on Philadelphia Inner Schools. Taught there for a bit, and it was quite different than what I was expected… FYI Abbott Elementary has it better than the school I taught in.

  2. Abbott Elementary is hilarious and sad at the same time because it couldn’t be more accurate in how teaching in the inner city really is.

  3. I’m so happy to see the actor that played “Chris” in “Everyone loves Chris” is on this show! I literally was just thinking about him and wondering what he was doing with his career the other day. He’s always been a great actor in my opinion

  4. When I saw “Abbott Elementary” my first thought was, “what did that bozo in Texas do now?” 😤🤣

  5. I can’t believe it’s been 8 years since Tyler James Williams played Noah on the Walking Dead. Great actor!

  6. i worked at a last resort alternative for 3 years, the students ages ran from 11 to 17. between teacher’s aides that brought very personal agendas and ideologies to class and the only student we ever refuse who was a 16 year old who raped an 82 year old women and would have had to come to school under guard, it was a very interesting and informative experience. among the rest of the students we had 3 hookers and 5 pimps, the youngest pimp was 11.
suffice to say all these kids had been in regular classes before coming to us and i had nothing but admiration for the teachers that had to manage a class of around 30 with these kids there.

  7. I gotta tell you how encouraging it was to hear other adults address the importance and contributions of teachers. This show is frighteningly accurate!

  8. This is such a good show. All my teacher friends (especially the Philly teachers) are able to relate to what the characters are going through. I hope everyone continues to watch, it’s worth it 😁
