Abortion fight turns to prescription medication amid federal rulings | USA TODAY

Even after Roe was overturned in 2022, the abortion battleground is still active. But now, advocates and judges have turned their eyes to prescription medication.

A rapid series of court rulings dealing with an abortion pill called mifepristone has thrust one of the nation's most divisive culture war debates back to the forefront and left Americans uncertain about access to the decades-old drug.

A federal appeals court ruling left the Food and Drug Administration's 23-year-old approval of mifepristone in place – meaning that Americans could continue to access it. But the divided ruling also effectively limited that access, temporarily barring Americans from receiving it through the mail or later in a pregnancy.
