yup. Trump had over a million encounters at the southern border in 2019 and 477,000 immigrants were added to the US population from every country on earth. Encounters were twice as many of any year since 2007.
Biden saw 2.8m encounters, which continued the trump trajectory but he only added 244,000 new immigrants, documented or otherwise to the US population in 2021.
Biden recovered every job in every sector of the economy that was still unfilled when he took office and created five million excess jobs on top of that.
Reagan “fixed the economy” by raising taxes on the middle class and giving 3m undocumented visitors a path to citizenship. Biden only raised taxes on the top 1.8% of earners and he hasn’t given any immigrants amnesty – but he should. We need immigrants.
When Trump took office there were about half a million immigration cases in the courts. Trump left Biden with a 1.3 Million Case Backlog in Immigration Court.
According to CATO, Trump’s changes in immigration enforcement policies can explain 90 percent of the drop in removals between Oct. 2019 and April 2021 while actions taken during the Biden administration can explain about 10 percent of the drop.
Biden was 5x more effective at protecting our borders in 2021 than trump was in 2019 when the trump border crisis began.

Republi-cons are the ones blocking immigration reform – Border problems could easily be solved by streamlining the system. Simply offer cost-deferred visas and work permits, along with background check for anyone who wants to visit or work. This way non-citizens could be taxed to cover indigents, and law enforcement could focus on real dangerous people.
People crossing national borders are no more or less bad for the country than people crossing state borders. Population increase through immigration is just as good or better than population increase through domestic birth.
The vast majority of people trying to get in could afford temporary housing to get started, but end up losing their life savings paying crooked smugglers to get them past our absurd restrictions. This is all counterproductive and just political.
