BBC reporter behind Diana interview: I don’t believe we harmed her

Veteran journalist Martin Bashir has said he "never wanted to harm" Princess Diana with his now disgraced BBC Panorama interview, telling the Sunday Times newspaper, "I don't believe we did." In the 1995 world exclusive interview, Diana confirmed Prince Charles' relationship with Camilla Parker Bowles and described in frank detail how she believed royal life had made her bulimic. CNN's Max Foster reports.

  1. They used her…that’s so sad…BBC should be sanctioned… This is against her human rights..

    1. Charles was banging the then-married Camilla before he even met Diana & throughout their marriage. This BS is just a smokescreen whitewash to blame the press ahead of trying to bring in press censorship. Don’t fall for it!

    2. They used her, just as she used the press. It’s nice and simple to call things black and white, but in the gown up world, reality is many shades of grey.

  2. That’s why Trust is so important for those at the top of their Profession. You can ONLY have “a culture of protection” where those at the top act with integrity and transparency. Those who don’t/can’t do that harm their organisation and the reputation of their profession.

    1. @Eduardo Oliveira CNN try to be balanced. Republicans represent a lot of Americans and need to have their “perspective” considered. Even if it’s based on a clear misrepresentation of the facts – pandering to the prejudices of the few. CNN does a pretty good job of that imo.

    2. Diana was the baby machine only. Charles was banging the then-married Camilla before he even met Diana & throughout their marriage. This BS is just a smokescreen whitewash to blame the press ahead of trying to bring in press censorship. Don’t fall for it!

    3. @Green party of Wakanda That’s an oversimplification that is too binary in view to address.
      Cheers.

  3. Lying seems to be in the DNA of an increasing number of people. I don’t think that admonishing them not to lie, unless there are significant negative consequences, is going to stop this behaviour.

    1. Well, the US government gets away with using lies (WMD etc) to justify dirty foreign policies. Media and politicians have also been rewarded for lying. So naturally Americans pick up lying as an American value.

    2. When it comes to this level of power, lying and deceit are necessary tools for maintaining control.

  4. serial killer: Honestly I don’t think I did anything wrong, Those people were going to die someday anyway

    1. @Eduardo Oliveira don’t think they’d get much out of a man crying as he realizes he’s gonna go to jail

    1. Bashir is also one of the reasons why mj was convicted for the second time for molestation. His documentary completely crumbled Michael’s reputation.

    2. They destroyed that man’s legacy. Him opening up to Martin was the worst decision he made and he’s still paying for it even though he’s deceased. Smh

    1. But Michael Jackson was a wolf dressed in sheep’s clothes NOT THE SAME.

    2. @ITHINKTHEFUCKNOT YOUTRICKASSBITCH THANK YOU! The interviewer didn’t force MJ to defiantly say “I slept in the bed with ALL OF THEM!” and “Why can’t you share your bed? It’s very loving and very RIGHT!” when asked about his habit of having other people’s children spend the night with him.

  5. This is the same reporter who was caught manipulating and lying about his interview with Michael Jackson

  6. If it did not help him secure the interview, then what was the purpose of forging documents and lying to someone he claims to have loved?

    1. They contributed to her total demise. Shame on you for not using critical thinking. You are probably ignorant of critical thinking.

    3. @Gayle Schaefer Gayle, Gayle… i was being facetious. I thought that was plain. Of course they killed her in the tunnel; they denied that too. (Which was my point) Of course they hunted her down, set her up and would have continued to do so for the mere value of headlines and high praise from their publishers. None og these deceptive actions and a willingness to destroy people would have happened if they were not condoned by the publishers, as much as they would love to put it on a reports back and disclaim any involvement…and look how far those despicable acts reached… clear into the lives of her children and grandchildren. Shame on bbc… and others!

    4. @Tone Loc while I agree this is not abou press censorship. This is about press honesty and fairness.

  7. What Bashir did was wrong. But , he is NOT the reason why Diana was miserable and unhappy..

  8. I suspect Bashir left the BBC because they knew this story was about to break and presented him the option v them letting him go.

  9. Blame her cheating husband for having a mistress before he got married and after they were married

  10. How could the bbc trick Dianna , Dianna didn’t need no one to tell her that Prince Charles didn’t love and was having an affair

  11. Let’s be honest the marriage was an arrangement on Prince Charles to produce heirs and still keep the relationship with Camila. Princess Diana was too nice to marry him and be on that phoney family who only cares about fabricated images.

  12. The system that protected him, and the system that helped bury her. Diana was a commodity to too many. RIP sweet Diana.
