Biden Aims To Show Superiority Of U.S. Democracy On Trip To Europe

Rachel Maddow reports on how the Biden administration sees advocacy for democracy as the best form of government as part of the U.S. role on the world stage, and how that task is complicated by a Trump-led Republican Party that is actively working to undermine democracy, and a Democratic Party that is struggling to serve the will of the people within the confines of U.S. democratic rules.

  1. Can’t make your case until you get your own house in order until then the US can’t set itself as a leader in democracy Europe isn’t blind or deaf.

    1. @Joshua Russell – Hitler failed in his invasion of the UK, prior to the USA entering the war and he then failed in his invasion of the USSR. Although everyone on the allies side appreciates U.S. involvement they didn’t play a bigger part than the UK or the USSR and it was Hitler that declared war on the USA, not the other way around. It was also the USSR that took Berlin.
I honestly can’t even understand what you mean by saving “their collective Woke Arses” when both WW1 and WW2 were wars between different European nations and their allies.
Maybe you should read a history book and not just watch “Saving Private Ryan” and then think only the USA defeated Hitler. Even on D-Day itself out of the five beaches taken the U.S. took two Britain took two and Canada and other allies took the fifth. Mainly British landing craft and pilots were used and support was mainly from the Royal Airforce.
This landing could never have taken place if the UK wasn’t a free nation.
Comments like yours are not only wrong but insulting to the memory of those that gave their lives to keep Britain free and those that fought and died to defeat Hitler from other allied nations.

    2. @Robert J. Williamson Really? So, who equipped, funded etc the USSR, Britain, France etc.? Wait! It gets better! Who helped fund, feed etc. many of those same countries AFTER the war?

    3. @Robert J. Williamson Who had the balls to drop a nuke on Japan and tell them to get the f up and fight like a man.

  2. Power should take a place of humility but firm and show it’s resolve when challenged. Biden needs to be humble. The US is no role model right now. It’s a humiliating example of democracy, currently.

  3. “Self interest is for the past; common interest is for the future.” – D. Attenborough.

    1. @Scientific Methodologist that’s because of closed in narrow minded individuals as your self, to be too proud to take an idea from others.

    2. @A. Barker I don’t think people call others “narrow minded” for not believing fairytale BS.
For some reason, it’s always the liberals/socialist/communists that naively believe that people in power greed would diminish if we went into a a system as you propose. Always have the worst ideas, it’s like you would say “give bank robbers a third of the money, they wont come back”. You should call yourself “naive minded” instead.

    3. @Justin Elliott that’s just what Trumpers did by not hold him accountable for….. anything….for one, letting Donald Trump give himself a tax cut without ever seeing his taxes. So basically you just outed Trump.

    4. @Justin Elliott fantasy? All countries considered 1st world, have government run, medical and affordable meds accept the United States. You are the one living with dinosaurs.

  4. “Superiority of American democracy”!!

Like the world has been watching “American Democracy” in action!!

It’s June 2021 and some States are still validating (or not) ballots.

And, oh yes, the insurrection at the Capital – under the ‘leadership’ of POTUS 45!

  5. if you want to be truly democratic end the filibuster and the democratic college since that disable the direct democracy and the will of the people

  6. On the subject of “Democracy” the USA has a lot of cleaning house (prosecuting the leaders of the jan 6 insurgency) to do before they’re credible again as a democracy… Currently they’re the laughing stock.

  7. americans have focussed so much on capitalism that they forgot their political system. and the autocrats are correct when it comes to american democracy… it doesnt deliver the US seems stuck in the 80s, running remakes of Magnum and Baywatch while people cant get proper dental care and every city looks like a car infested shithole

  8. Kind of hard to show how superior US democracy is when there’s a fascist leech chewing on it

    1. Yup. He surrounds himself with a literal army, wouldnt let the media into his concentration camps at the border, is pro censorship, wants to disarm the law abiding populace, and rigs elections. But he’ll still have the nerve to read a teleprompter that says things about democracy.

    2. @James Smith
Let’s talk about it on the White House official youtube channel…Oh that’s right. As soon as Biden took over the comments were disabled.

  9. Human rights, justice, democracy ? The US have to clean their house first and then may be, lead by example…
And i am not talking about supporting apartheid in the middle east…

  10. Corporate America is failing in democracy and that is what happens when the rich have all the power and make all the decisions.

  11. Lol. Voter suppression, gerrymandering, active campaigns of disenfranchisement, a partisan civil service, partisan judiciary, and an active seditious movement championed by one of the two principal parties. Yeah ‘superior’. Sure.

    1. Totally agree. Does Biden not know that the world has bee closely watching the US? You cannot claim any moral high ground on being a “superior Democracy, when you have people voting on voter suppression. It looks more like PUTINS RUSSIA than some country like, Denmark.

    2. Exactly. A Wyoming voter has 32 times the voting power of a California voter. It’s ridiculous and all of it helps republicans/white supremacists.

    3. @Felipe Echeverri someone’s a subvert. It’s called electorates, you misinformation rat

    4. @sheela Hales “voter suppression” you couldn’t even name a fact about what is being suppressed unless it has something to do with insulting the intelligence of minorities. Good job, you’re so “woke”

  12. I call this catch22!! America wants to dismantle democracy and people’s rights but also want others to keep democracy!! The world is watching manchin

  13. Don’t meet with old putin and punish him for Past deeds against America already, he’s gotten away with at least past 4.5 years of transgression!

  14. I hope he won’t do that. The system where the democracy can be hijacked by the (Racist) States can’t be regarded as superior.

  15. You have authoritarianism, American democracy, and real democracy. in that order.
It’s just as misleading as the People’s Republic of China.
Or the Democratic People’s Republic of North Korea.

  16. Ten books everyone should read:
    – ‘The Dictator’s Handbook’
By: Bruce Bueno de Mesquita and Alastair Smith

    – ‘Black Earth: The Holocaust as History and Warning’
    By: Timothy D. Snyder

    – ‘On Tyranny: Twenty Lessons from the Twentieth Century’
    By: Timothy D. Snyder

    – ‘Our Time Is Now: Power, Purpose, and the Fight for a Fair America’
    By: Stacey Abrams

    – ‘Surviving Autocracy’
    By: Masha Gessen

    – ‘How Democracies Die’
By: Daniel Ziblatt and Steven Levitsky

    – ‘Zero Fail: The Rise and Fall of the Secret Service’
    By: Carol D. Leonnig

    – ‘Dark Money: The Hidden History of the Billionaires Behind the Rise of the Radical Right’
    By: Jane Mayer

    – ‘1984’
    By: George Orwell

    – ‘The Sum of Us: What Racism Costs Everyone and How We Can Prosper Together’
    By: Heather McGhee

  17. The US will stop being a democracy in ‘22 if Dems continue to do nothing about the ongoing coup.

  18. America refused to address or even acknowledge its Christian extremist problem.

Now it’s paid with its democracy.

  19. Lol, what a fkn joke.

They hide the amount of “DISLIKE” for Biden. They must be very high.
