Boot: I’m glad Griner is home, but the hostage bazaar has to close

CNN contributor Max Boot says while he’s happy that WNBA star Brittney Griner is back safe in the US after President Joe Biden released Russian arms dealer Viktor Bout in exchange for her freedom, the practice of swapping prisoners will put other Americans at risk.

    1. I bet then you would see a bunch of hostages being taken real auit while the getting is good though. bad press! xD

  1. Trading an international criminal for someone stupid enough to try take drugs into Russia wasn’t a “fair trade” by nearly any standard. Bad enough to trade for someone stupid enough to GO to Russia in the first place.

    1. The commenter pointed out that even now there are 30 American basketball players in Russia, a country perpetrating war crimes on a daily basis. It would seem basketball players are a pretty worthless bunch.

    1. @Te’Devan Kriyavan Kurzweil You mean Whelan who moved to Russia and made Friends with KGB agents after being dishonorably discharged from the US military… yeah, I’m sure he’s squeaky clean 🤣

    2. Thats easy to say. In reality, you have no idea if any of them have or haven’t brought a little treat with them. Do you think this happens to everyone that gets caught with a minuscule amount of pot (in whatever form)? Somehow, I doubt it. She’s the perfect person to arrest and sentence to an excessive amount of time in prison. You are fooling yourself if you think she wasn’t being used by Putin to stir up mainly right-wing outrage, further dividing the US. Read the comments for this video alone, Putin’s plan worked exactly how he wanted it to. The tragic thing is, the right-wing media are complicit, either intentionally or unintentionally. Anyone outraged by her release needs to wake up and realize they’re being played.

  2. Prisoner exchanges are dangerous. Especially when the level of criminals is so vastly under weighed. The Merchant of Death for a pot head? Not smart

  3. Finally! Someone with a brain that has the balls to say that you don’t negotiate with Terrorists and this just paints a target on the backs of all Americans traveling abroad.

  4. I love how all the journalists literally repeat the same thing and then there’s one guy that has a different view.

    1. @William Parks All 4 of them think exactly the same but they set up a scenario where one person says something a little different the other 3 scold that person Then they all agree by the end of the video.

  5. it’s individual presidents looking to score points with the public and disregarding the bigger picture. if ever there is a situation to not negotiate with terrorists, it’s hostage taking.

  6. “Treating others as you want to be treated. Requiring much from those who have been given so much. Living by the principle that we are our brother’s keeper. Caring for the poor and those in need. These values are old. They can be found in many denominations and many faiths, among many believers and among many non-believers… And they’re the ones that have defined my own faith journey.”

  7. totally agree with him. This deal never should have happened as she went there (Russia) voluntarily, and now we paid the price for her selfishness.

  8. This is sort of like when a cat 4 or 5 is approaching and there’s mandatory evac. And if people fail to heed such a call to evac, if they’re being carried away by the water or the wind and call for help, they’re on their own. This in some way is the same. Griner had a choice and choose to go to Russia to play ball. Is the next trip to NK? Perhaps Iran?

  9. I used to travel to many foreign countries while in the service and they always told us when you set foot in that country your at the mercy of there laws even if you think it’s stupid.

If Brittany Griner brought her THC vape to Indonesia, she’d have a death sentence and we couldn’t do anything about it.
