Britney Spears’ father now intends to step down as conservator

After months of public pressure from supporters of Britney Spears, Jamie Spears, the singer's father, signaled in a legal response Thursday that he intends to step down as conservator of the singer's estate, according a court filing obtained by CNN.
"There are, in fact, no actual grounds for suspending or removing Mr. Spears as the Conservator of the Estate" and "it is highly debatable whether a change in conservator at this time would be in Ms. Spears' best interests," the document, filed in response to a petition for Spears to be removed as conservator, states.
"Nevertheless, even as Mr. Spears is the unremitting target of unjustified attacks, he does not believe that a public battle with his daughter over his continuing service as her conservator would be in her best interests," the filing continues. "So even though he must contest this unjustified Petition for his removal, Mr. Spears intends to work with the Court and his daughter's new attorney to prepare for an orderly transition to a new conservator."
The move comes days after Judge Brenda Penny denied a petition filed by Britney Spears' attorney Mathew Rosengart to move a September 29 hearing about the case up to August 23 in an effort to remove her father as conservator as soon as possible.
"We are pleased that Mr. Spears and his lawyer have today conceded in a filing that he must be removed. It is vindication for Britney. We are disappointed, however, by their ongoing shameful and reprehensible attacks on Ms. Spears and others," Rosengart said in a statement to CNN. "We look forward to continuing our vigorous investigation into the conduct of Mr. Spears, and others, over the past 13 years, while he reaped millions of dollars from his daughter's estate, and I look forward to taking Mr. Spears's sworn deposition in the near future."
The elder Spears has been serving as co-conservator of his daughter's estimated $60 million estate for more than a decade. During a hearing in July, Britney Spears said she wanted to press charges against her father for "conservatorship abuse" and called the 13-year arrangement "f—ing cruelty."
Jamie Spears defended his actions as conservator in his response Thursday and called for an orderly transition to a new conservator following resolution of some outstanding matters in the case.
"When these matters are resolved, Mr. Spears will be in a position to step aside. But there are no urgent circumstances justifying Mr. Spears' immediate suspension," the document states. "An orderly transition based on cooperation would most certainly be in the best interests of Ms. Spears. Regardless of his formal title, Mr. Spears will always be Ms. Spears' father, he will always love her unconditionally, and he will always look out for her best interests."

  1. This whole Britney spears thing is a real life episode of black mirror. The father needs to go to jail. How was this even going on for so long

    1. He already took all the money. They said Britney was only worth 60 million when in fact she should be worth more than 200 million. Where is the money? 🤔 He is stepping down to avoid being investigated.

  2. What do you want to bet he’s been helping himself to her money??? It is nothing about caring for his daughter! $$$$$$$

  3. #FreeBritney! I am glad her dad Jamie is stepping down but I don’t trust his whole conservatorship!

  4. We need to change some of the laws that allow for BS like this to just continue for so long. He stepped in and saw dollar signs and no longer a child he helped bring into this world.

    1. No he stepped in to help his daughter. The little girl that he helped raise since she was born.
he knows her you don’t know her. He knows what’s best for her you don’t

  5. Doubt her father had her best interest as his focus after the first few years.. His wallet was his main concern seemingly.

  6. Good. He’s a greasy character with his own agenda.

It would be good to get an independent assessment of her condition and her needs.

  7. Britney Spears’ father doesn’t want investigations into how he took advantage. The real issue here, though, is the lack of transparency involved in conservatorships, and the dubious decisions of the judge or judges over the past 13 years that allowed this travesty to happen, and to continue for so long.

  8. This is a PR stunt and a way to discredit everything Britney has said by criticizing Lynn Spears in this filing. He is not leaving any time soon. Idk why I’m surprised cnn didn’t read the actual court documents. He said he’s stepping down “when the time is right.” He has conditions to this. He wants a transition period with whoever will be the new conservator, britney’s lawyer to withdraw his motion to suspend and remove jaimie, and to settle his accounts with his lawyers and PR team.

    1. He has quite a debt with the lawyers. The matter of paying them has come up at the last few court dates, but the amount has been contested, so it keeps being pushed off to the next date. I think it’s just over one million, with about $600k for “media matters” apparently he believes Britney should pay for his PR team to control his public image.

  9. the judge who did this sadistic nonsense is a dirty figure

the lawyers thieving all her money are noses
