Calls For 82-Year-Old Justice Breyer To Retire After Ginsburg Outcome | All In | MSNBC

“He knows all of this stuff, but please don’t make him say it, because that will make it harder for him to step down,” says Slate’s Dahlia Lithwick, discussing calls for Justice Breyer to retire from the Supreme Court.

  1. How about we have the supreme court judge that committed perjury during his job interview retire.

    Boofing
    Devils Triangle
Not really that hard to see he lied under oath-

    1. I’d give them 12 years on the supreme Court then send them down to the Federal Court but let them stay at their Supreme Court Justice salary.

    2. @Steve Chance That is pointless and making it more complicated than need be. 20 years and a minimum age requirement of 60 is simple and runs through 5 presidential election cycles.

  2. John Roberts, Brett Kavanaugh, and Amy Coney Barrett were all Bush Jr’s personal attorneys in the 2000 Gore vs Bush Jr election case. Now those 3 attorneys are on the Supreme Court. 🤔 😒

    1. And Neil Gorsuch’s campaign for the Supreme Court received $10 million from some anonymous dark money donor.
      🤔 😒

    2. Isn’t there a right wing group that vetted and nominated the ones they can control? They are called Federalist or something.

  3. he needs to re tf tire and stop putting people’s lives at risk with another brett or amy on the supreme court

    1. You always hear the Republican party crying over bipartisanship, but if you look at their history all they care about is money and power, having a 5/3 majority on the supreme court is not bipartisan, McConnell derailing Obama’s agenda and openly admitting that his main goal is to obstruct and stand in the way of anything that the Democrats are trying to do, is not bipartisan, the only time they want bipartisanship is when it’s a Republican president or when it fits their narratives, but they didn’t care about bipartisanship when they nuked and abused the filibuster to pack the courts or give tax breaks to the most wealthiest people in the country

    1. Agreed–emphatically. Everybody acknowledges that “Power corrupts”. They seem to overlook the fact that the longer someone is in power, the less resistant they are to that corruption (and also the more distanced they become from the lives and trials of the average citizen). There’s a reason we limit Presidents to two terms. We should also put limits on Congress.

    2. Unfortunately, that will not change anytime soon. I agree. 10 years should be the term for a justice and 20 for chief justice would be fair.

  4. “The accumulation of all powers, Legislative, Executive, and Judiciary, in the same hands… may justly be pronounced the very definition of tyranny.”

    -James Madison

“Nine seems to be a good number. It’s been that way for a long time… I think it was a bad idea when President Franklin Roosevelt tried to pack the court… If anything would make the court look partisan it would be that — one side saying, ‘When we’re in power, we’re going to enlarge the number of judges, so we would have more people who would vote the way we want them to.’”

    -Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg

  5. Also needs a mention how long justice Ginsberg held on past where she should to try to not let The Former Guy choose her successor. I’m sure she would have rather retire and spend her final months/years with her family relaxing.

  6. Coney Barrett is a Supreme Court Judge by default – she ought not be there and I hope is eventually removed.

  7. Mitch McConnell: “It would be irresponsible for us to replace a Supreme Court Justice in the first four years of a President’s term”.

  8. Most states have an extra stringent test for senior citizen drivers license. Having a lifetime seat on the Supreme court could use examination. Some seniors win Nobel prizes, some don’t. Let’s face it, it’s a tough and important job.

  9. If he does retire, the Republicans will claim that due to election fraud allegations they must delay confirmation hearings of any SCOTUS nominee until we are sure Biden is the legitimate President. Just wait and see, as they have no shame.

  10. Term limits and retirement age for Everyone in Government. No lifetime appointments for anyone, period.

  11. HOLD! “COURT”??? Now, take “DISTRICT”?? Now take “Circuit” … And now “Supreme” COURT! What’s the difference other than “SCOPE” and “FIELD?” Still a COURT!? Makes ‘judgements’ on decisions and the LAW! Something like the “appeal’s COURTs”… Like BSF, “We don’t make the things you buy, we make them better.” This connection/association/commitment bound by TRUTH (dictated by LAW) cannot ignore its principles (connection, association, commitment). Not NEW! Age old! Otherwise, one cannot trust (or believe, or hope… OR accept).
