The whale is swimming between two locks in a basin about 50 miles north of Paris. It was described as alert but not eating on Monday by rescuers who are considering options to remove it from the river.

The Beluga was discovered in the Seine on Aug. 2. Small boats failed to guide the whale back to the English Channel, about 100 miles downriver. Sea Shepherd France, a marine conservation group, says it fears the Beluga is slowly starving to death.
