‘Factually Innocent’ Black Man Remains Imprisoned But Missouri Gov. Pardons Gun-Toting Couple

The governor of Missouri has pardoned the gun-toting couple infamous for raising their firearms at Black Lives Matter protesters, while a Black man in the same state who prosecutors say is innocent–and who has been incarcerated for over 40 years–remains imprisoned. Joy Reid is joined by Tricia Rojo Bushnell, director of the Midwest Innocence Project, who explains the details of Kevin Strickland’s case and his hopes for exoneration.

  1. If he’s in a private prison the governor is probably getting a kickback. Those private prisons have to go.

    1. As she said; The white Republican, Trump loyalist, Governor doesn’t feel like releasing him. Trumps Republican Lackeys have a racist code they stand by and unfortunately, black people like Candace Owens, and other black Republicans refuse to see it, because they’re too busy trying to convince themselves that they’re ‘good’ black folks who know how to toe the line, listen to messa, and toe the line like Trumps white minions. Republicans have become hive-minded Trump fanatics.

  2. Three words for why these two got pardoned….rich, white, and Republican…nothing else needs to be said.

    1. @The Big Sad yiu sound so fckn corney this man been down 40 years and proven to be innocent oh that’s right he’s a black man right

    2. @Cant belive the bs Never ever I was talking about the pardoned couple not the man that’s been in jail for 40 years.

  3. So so Shameful from Gov Parson I wish they would treat 1/6 like this but those people deserve being kept in jail.
Kevin should be released it’s shameful

There’s no need to be sarcastic! It’s a well-known fact that the President of the United States can only pardon people who’ve been convicted of federal crimes. I’ve known that for years. In other words, you don’t have to check out Donald Trump’s latest little shenanigan to know that.

    2. @Florida Man Article 72 says he can. An MSNBC viewer who saw this on PBS. But your under the DEATHSANTIS and Gaetz💁‍♀️ Fl. is going throughalot. Be kind it’s contagious 🌻

  4. Why wasn’t the habeus corpus submitted before 2021? Why weren’t appeals done? Or were they? Pardons aren’t the only way out. This is so awful. 🙁

    1. A racist, a clown, a dummy, a flunky, a lackey and like this beautiful sister said, he lucked up on his position

    1. Pick up the phone. Think of how to do it, not how not to do it. Republicacults don’t negotiable or think for themselves.

Snail mail the Governor. 80 bags of mail might convince him. Lots of federal interests and businesses in STL. People visit Branson. Used to, Governor, we used to.

  5. 40 f…….. years? It is hard to believe that America could be this f…..ed up. But the evidence is an avalanche of filth. How do any of you look at yourselves in the mirror? How do you continue to pretend that this is ok? It is shocking and I am truly disgusted at the sheer apathy for another human beings life.

  6. How many innocent people are rotting away in jail cells in America? How many? How is this not a national disgrace?

  7. Free Brian Stickland and free the governor of his position. Shocking. If he was white or rich he would have been out ages ago. Forty years in jail is jumping the que. Ffs 😢

    1. @Whattheysay Aboutme

No, he couldn’t, because the President of the United States can only intervene in cases involving federal laws, and thus, federal crimes. What Brian Strickland was convicted of wasn’t a federal crime, so President Biden has no jurisdiction over this particular case. He can, hopefully, convince or pressure the Governor of Missouri to issue a pardon, but it’s highly unlikely, since the Governor is a Pro-Trump Republican, which means he hates Joe Biden’s guts! He definitely won’t listen to anything the President says, no matter how truthful it is.

    2. I AGREE!!! FREE KEVIN STRICKLAND!!!! ✊ HE SHOULD NOT EVEN BE THERE!!!! 43 YEARS TOO MANY!!! THEY STOLE HIS WHOLE LIFE FOR NOTHING UGH…..

  8. You know your country is a joke when it preaches liberty and freedom globally but ignores freeing an innocent man…As bad as the US is , this still shocks me…LMAO

  9. Why would he need a “Pardon” for a crime he didn’t commit? Keeping him locked up is just so wrong.

  10. He shouldn’t be pardoned. He should be exonerated and everyone should beg him for forgiveness with a huge check written out to him so he doesn’t have to worry about anything in the future. But we all know that’s not going to happen..
