Fighting COVID symptoms, a year after being ‘cured’ | USA TODAY

Ronald Rushing Sr. was diagnosed with COVID-19 in July 2020. More than a year later, Rushing lives with a debilitating, burning headache.

Ronald Rushing Sr., 46, thought he had a cold when he came down with a sore throat, cough and a headache July 27, 2020. A grocery store manager living in Southern Pines, North Carolina, Rushing’s district manager sent him home to get better.

More than a year later, he’s still not. Pain shoots through his head from the moment he opens his eyes in the morning until he closes them at night.

Working his old job remains out of the question. Though his company extended his employment so he still has health insurance, he was replaced as store manager. The father of six doesn’t blame his bosses, but without that job he questions his identity and self-worth.

“On a daily basis, I feel alone and I feel like no one cares,” said Rushing, who hopes telling his story will help others feel less isolated and restore his sense of purpose. “It’s become the majority of my life, because I’ve lost everything else.”

  1. It’s called old age.
When you hit 30 it starts by time you get to 60 it hurts to lay down it hurts to getup it hurts to walk and then comes the time when you can’t sleep. It’s called old age

    1. What you describe could be old age ..what he is experiencing is a hard recovery from a devastating virus.
Imagine how you might feel after getting COVID-19…how hard it might be to recover your pre infection health?
This is not simply old age…these are long lasting affects of COVID-19.

    1. @Sun Shine I told you my personal experience with this and it upsets you.. guess what hermit, I don’t care about your opinion on the vaccine that obviously isn’t working.. vaccinated people are getting the virus at a higher rate than the unvaccinated. Was that their intention when creating the vaccination? health care workers don’t even want it.

    2. @Pete C Many in Israel are triple jabbed, and they’re getting ready for jab number 4 already! So yeah, the vax is super effective … at enriching big pharma and empowering governments.

    3. I shouldn’t have gotten the vaccine. It gave me swollen lymph nodes for 2 weeks.
And then I got covid a month after getting the vaccine.

    4. @Pete C Yep, and now the same is happening in the US. Vax doens’t cover delta and mu.
This is a joke. I’m just glad Covid isn’t what it was touted at first.
This is all just about forcing the masks and vaccines at this point. That’s what happens with socialized medicine

  2. It’s unfortunate that people who tout this alleged 99% survival rate , are not taking into account the covid long haulers (ie the ones suffering long term effects of the virus), or the people financially ruined.

People should not use data on how many people have survived COVID-19 to predict their own chances of surviving infection, experts say. Someone’s chances of surviving COVID-19 can vary depending on their age, health, and vaccination status — national statistics don’t account for these factors.

    1. Puggalug, what’s “unfortunate” is that nearly two years into this and nobody knows of anyone that died of covid without presence of completely unrelated terminal illness at TOD, yet they’re STILL living in shear terror based on non evidence-based around the clock fear mongering from the fake news MSM that they watch all day.

If you had no tv, radio, newspaper, etc you would have no remote clue that there was any kind of pandemic occurring at all, now would we? Do you believe that was also the case for the Spanish Flu, Black Death etc? I highly doubt it as people were literally dropping dead left and right.

    2. @Masaud Hashimu You believe the govt. is trying to control us through covid? Don’t they save every one of our key strokes, phone calls? Don’t they take us into permawars. The vaccine is a positive benefit, if somewhat flawed. Why pick on vaccine rather than everything else that smells like deep state?

  3. Take care please. You and your story makes all the difference. I am you, someone understands our challenges. Why did I take health for granted?I just want to be with my family, that is all that matters.

    1. I’m right there with you, a year after having Covid I still don’t feel healthy and I don’t know if I’ll ever have my previous level of health and energy. But we beat it and we’re still here, and that’s a blessing. I know it’s hard but please hang in there, I’m praying for you and for all of us. ❤🙏

  4. Please ignore these sad people who have no compassion and only keyboard courage. Sadly, one day there will be lessons for them to learn humanity, not ignorance, in their own lives. Life does work mysteriously.

    1. alisa1704, for sure! But 2 years into this… how many people do you honestly know of that “died of covid” and not something unrelated?

      Exactly

    2. @TUrd_immunitY Many wont know many very close to them that died. It has around a 1% mortality rate. However the occurrence of Long Covid symptoms that drastically effect your life is massively higher. So STFU!

    3. @TUrd_immunitY You believe the govt. is trying to control us through covid? Don’t they save every one of our key strokes, phone calls? Don’t they take us into permawars. 4. @Jeff Moore Jess, Moderna alone profited $4B during first fiscal quarter of the year… but they just “love us” right?

      For sure!

  5. 549 days ago (that’s quite a while) the US declared a “Covid state of emergency” for the US…

How many people do you honestly know that died of covid that were not already for sure terminally ill with something completely unrelated?
The homeless population throughout Western Civilization is not being affected by covid.
And how many athletes, celebs, elites are you able to name right now that truly passed due to covid?

    1. I know 2, & 2 sheriffs, in their 30s who where in good health… until they were infected.

As for celebrities & other elites … they have the money & access to treatment that the majority of us ( working class ) do not. Also, they were first in line for the vaccine.

John Prine was on tour, doing great & next thing we knew he was on a ventilator.

Jackson Browne had flown to NY for a charity concert, when he contacted Covid. Had he been of working class, he would not have survived.

Just for the hell of it, look up politician H. Scott Apley.

    2. “The homeless population is not being affected” That’s a wild guess on your part. Please cite your source. Were you erroneously thinking that every homeless person was going to suddenly drop dead? If only 1 out of 50 on average die from Covid-19, then that ratio would hold true for the homeless population.

  6. Be good if he mentioned these “symptoms” apart from a vague and possibly misleading “burning in my brain”. Did doctors confirm this originates in the brain, is he talking about headaches (pain emanating from the head)? What tests have been done, is he experiencing other symptoms? Pointless and a waste of my time. If you want a real report with detail come to me, I have been suffering with multiple debilitating “Long Covid” symptoms for more than a year and I can describe them in detail.

    1. @TUrd_immunitY Had my “shots” but caught Covid in the first wave and have been suffering from “Long Covid” type symptoms since. Unlike this guy if I was asked about said symptoms I would be able to explain them in detail. So how about you think before you speak and yeah STFU.

    1. because so few have these long term symptoms. And it’s usually someone who is unhealthy to begin with. I haven’t seen one video where they patient wasn’t full of risk factors.
