Fmr. Federal Prosecutor: W.H. Counsel Participated In ‘Unethical Conduct’ | The Last Word | MSNBC

Revelations from the NYT show that White House counsel Pat Cipollone was a fact witness in the activity that is at the center of Trump's impeachment trial. Since Cipollone is defending Trump in the trial, Glenn Kirschner says the state bar could open an investigation, decide if there was wrongdoing and if so, sanction or disbar Cipollone. Lawrence also discusses with Ron Klain, Maya Wiley, Rick Stengel, and Chuck Rosenberg. Aired on 01/31/20.

  1. “Timid men prefer the calm of despotism to the tempestuous sea of Liberty.”
    ―Thomas Jefferson

At the close of the Constitutional Convention of 1787,  Benjamin Franklin was asked as he left Independence Hall on the final day of deliberation. In the notes of Dr. James McHenry, one of Maryland’s delegates to the Convention,  a lady asked Dr. Franklin: “Well Doctor what have we got, a republic or a monarchy?”

Benjamin Franklin replied:  “A republic….if you can keep it.”

Today, in 2020, Trump and Republicans have said, that we can no longer keep it.

America’s democracy and Constitutional republic, has never been in more peril than it is right now. Trump and republicans, are attempting to reverse our victory in our War of Independence, that began 1775 and ended in 1783. They are attempting to throw it all away, like it never happened, and install a new King, a new monarch, a new tyrant, to rule over the American people. We are witnessing history folks. This is America’s darkest hour.

“If there is one fact we really can prove, from the history that we really do know, it is that despotism can be a development, often a late development and very often indeed the end of societies that have been highly democratic. A despotism may almost be defined as a tired democracy. As fatigue falls on a community, the citizens are less inclined for that eternal vigilance which has truly been called the price of liberty; and they prefer to arm only one single sentinel to watch the city while they sleep.”
― G.K. Chesterton, The Everlasting Man

“Whatever government is not a government of laws, is a despotism, let it be called what it may”
    ― Daniel Webste

“There’s no English equivalent for silovik. It doesn’t translate succinctly because to create something as Machiavellian as a silovik requires both the KGB and the GRU, and then a shift from communism to capitalism, followed by a gear-grinding reverse into despotism.”
    ― Tanya Thompson, Red Russia

“The actions of government, we are told, bear down only on imprudent souls who provoke them. The man who resigns himself and keeps silent is always safe. Reassured by this worthless and specious argument, we do not protest against the oppressors. Instead we find fault with the victims. Nobody knows how to be brave even prudentially. Everyone stays silent, keeping his head low in the self-deceiving hope of disarming the powers that be by his silence. People give despotism free access, flattering themselves they will be treated with consideration. Eyes to the ground, each person walks in silence the narrow path leading him safely to the tomb..”
― Benjamin Constant, Principles of Politics Applicable to All Governments

    1. I think what we need to do is stop letting one person in the House and one person in the Senate control what Congress does. If we can give power back to members of Congress instead of two people like Pelosi and McConnell, Congress might be able to stand up to the executive branch again. Right now Congress is like two little dictatorships. I am not blaming them, but the rules that Congress follows. We need to change those rules. Actually, McConnell is acting worse than Pelosi in a lot of ways, but the rules are the problem.

    2. What a horrible Republican government we have. Leave it to Trump to try to run this country like his friend Putin. Republicans want a dictator so they can rule the country without Democrats. Wake up Sleepy America.

    3. Kenneth Greifer … I agree somewhat, but how could “rules” be faulted when you have those who state they have no Intension of abiding by any rule and basic fair play?

If rules are not properly followed, how then, could it be determined whether or not they work, are effective or applicable?

  2. “Who wasn’t in the loop?” Every last one of them is corrupt. The swamp hasn’t been drained. It’s overflowing.

    1. The “Swamp” trump white house counsel were in the senate trial defending trump..Unbelievable…Cippolline was mentioned many many times in the congressional impeachment process…many of the witness’s mentioned his name in regards to Bolton telling Ms. Hill to “report the Ukraine scam to Cippoloni..and VIndeman reporting this to him also..and other witness’s mentioned Cippolini’s name..and that Cippoloni basically did not “respond much at all to their concerns” and he also told Vindeman “not to say anything to anyone about this’..so when I saw Cippolloni representing trump in the senate trial from the very beginning I thought “why is he there he is a apart of this whole Ukraine scam he should recuse himself”. Now FINALLY people are bringing this up after Bolton statement released today about Cippilonni being “in the room” when they and trump were talking about putting “pressure” on Ukraine to investigate the Bidens and Democrats”

    2. @Barbara Roberts It’s unbelievable, when the President and his administration are supposed to be in charge of national security but they pose a greater risk than outside threats.

    1. @Pete 952 True. Trump hires them because they will be compliant and complicit. Anyone with a shred of honesty in them has either left or Trump has fired them. Crooks can not abide honest people.

    1. @Scorpio News Wow! Those were some really prescient comments by Schiff! That’s exactly what happened, isn’t it? Right down to the participation of the Fox “news” lawyers! The only thing is, Bolton is stalwart in not violating the law as a means to an end, and therefore wouldn’t participate in the “drug deal”. Good on him!

    2. @byteresistor I took my pic with santa at the mall. That S.O.B. claims he doesnt know me. I’m sitting right there! Lying POS. Santa has 17,000 lies so far. That a hole. Dont even get me started about Mickey mouse and Disneyland. I WAS RIGHT THERE! Lying freakin mouse. Thank God getting a pic with POTUS isint that desirable. Obviously hes a liar.

    1. Who wasn’t in the loop? It seems many of the Republican senator jurors were in the loop too, and they will vote to acquit, not to protect Trump, but to protect themselves.

They already voted for no witnesses or evidence in the trial because those witnesses and evidence would have named senators who were in the loop, so those senators as jurors voted to prohibit those witnesses. This is the height of corruption and a failed state.

      Now it makes sense.

    2. @Scorpio News Wow! Those were some really prescient comments by Schiff! That’s exactly what happened, isn’t it? Right down to the participation of the Fox “news” lawyers! 3. Lev Parnas has receipts. Parnas attorney send the documents today to Moscow Mitch but of course Moscow Mitch ignored it.

    1. Democrats love corruption and criminals. Your all DEAD TO AMERICA. RED TSUNAMI IN 2020
      LOSERS. START CRYING NOW.

  4. When Michael Cohen get out,a bus load of politicians and lawyers will take his place.cohen told them who abett Trump is going to prison.i guess they didn’t get the memo.

    1. Wait a minute Michael Cohen only fills one cell. I suggest letting all the pot smokers out that should make little more room

    1. corrine joy if you don’t have any clue then we don’t need to explain that cause we already found out that you
can’t cant explain that to cult members

  5. That’ll be interesting for the state Bar Assoc to investigate Cipollone’s wrongdoing- which means another investigation from another angle of the Ukraine extortion scandal!
It’s a consolation prize, yes, but it still makes me a little bit happier 😏

    1. Absolutely. Lawyers are expected to recuse themselves in any matter where there might be a remote conflict of interest.
In special cases they can be allowed to remain involved but only if they first disclose their conflicts and then the court issues them a “firewall” agreement, essentially they have to remain uninvolved in any thing that might hint at a conflict.

    2. Lies, filth, and corruption are the ear-marks Cadet Bone-Spurs looks for in his lawyers. This is the same orange turd that learned how to disgrace the laws of our nation at the hands of his father and his fathers’ lawyer Roy Cohen.

Now… how do we drive these weasels from our government? I advise registering, re-registering, verify registration, and get a list of all blue-leaning voters you can help get to the polls come November. We… the People, we are going to drive the Russ-Thugu-KKKants into extinction. Let the survivors start a new party to rally behind. Something catchy, like… The Cousinbrotheruncledaddy-Inbred-Trash- Party. That rings pretty true. See you at the polls.

  6. How is this more explosive than Devin Nunes participating in the House Intelligence Committee hearings? Everyone in the GOP in leadership, including the RNC is implicated in criminal behavior against the best interests of the United States. Every GOP Senator with a law degree and Trump’s counsel need to be disbarred immediately if the bar association is to retain any kind of credibility.

    1. The GOP (Gangsters Of Politics) are corrupt to the core. They are a crime syndicate run by the right wing mafia.

    2. @S. Lee Mccauley It would not surprise me if McConnell would now start spewing out the bills with a lot of amendments to keep the house occupied and not being able to hold the necessary hearings. If they are not quick enough, it will be held against them in the election. They made all ready their preparation by the nickname: The do-nothing democrats. Maybe that was the reason why he held on so long on these bills.

    3. Michele Mcneill The NYC bar association sent an official request to the 4 heads of Congress requesting a formal investigation into his behavior. You can search for the document on their website by putting his name in the search bar. It’s a 5 page document…very informative.

    1. After Hitler got into office there was no stopping him until Germany was utterly destroyed. Let’s hope and pray that we can stop Trump before he destroys our American dream !

    2. @Terry Waltman
Too late, the dream is well and truly over. The American political system is rotten and corrupt, both parties. No point being partisan as so many Americans are, it’s laughable to listen to them with their “maga” and their “anyone blue” nonsense. The American people have been very carefully divided so the establishment, the two parties, can do what they like because they’ll always have somewhere near 50% support. The USA is not a world leader in advertising and marketing for nothing.

    4. The stark choice for Americans in November 2020 will be, do we want a Democracy or an Autocracy? The world will be watching.

  7. Media should invite those witnesses to tell their stories to the American people! At least let voters see that information.

    1. Kimberley Hosmer There is no requirement or accountability for truth telling unless Under oath. And the senate just blocked that 🤦🏻‍♂️

  8. The Attorney General is corrupt. Chief Justice Roberts weakened the Judicial Branch. The lead attorney for the criminal in the White House committed malpractice. The Senate gave a sham trial. . . . And we have an electorate more concerned about the Super Bowl.

    1. Matthew McDermit I would disagree about Chief Justice Roberts. He was playing by the Senate rules which are nothing like judicial law. In your statement, that is all that I would disagree with.

    1. All GOP members who were shouting so loud in the impeachment process had conflicts of interests: Nunes, Graham, Cipollone, Bondy, Barr, Pompeo, Mulvany, Pence, Perry, etc…
