Seriously, I agree, it’s ridiculous. They’d rather die for their country by disease than protect themselves and their families.
Just to keep things in perspecitve, according to (relatively scarce available) science, masks help a little, but well executed social distancing helps a lot (and there are less scientific uncertanties related to it).

Wearing a mask can’t help others more than it helps the wearer. It’s a common misunderstanding that even some doctors have been spreading. More air passes around the mask when you breath out than when you breath in. The smallest droplets are the most dangerous ones because they stay in the air for longest and thus travel furthest away from the person who breathed them out. The smallest droplets go where the air goes, so when we breath out, they bypass the filter in the same ratio as the air we breath out bypasses it.
We could have been ready for this pandemic. Hundreds of thousands of people would be alive.

I have yet to hear a cogent argument come from Lieberman. Let me guess, there is a big paycheck waiting for big pharma in his proposal.
