Actually, something DID happen to this individual: he was publicly disgraced and his true colors became known to many people (close and distant) who might have otherwise thought him a nicer, more decent, more respectful person. Just because he wasn’t censured or punished officially, it doesn’t mean he’s not experiencing some negative psychological and/or social repercussions.
