Government Committed to Improving Healthcare in Dominica

Roseau, Dominica – Friday, January 3, 2014 – An over 1.5 million dollar upgrade to the old Acute Psychiatric Unit, APU, building at the Princess Margaret Hospital is aimed at providing greater access to healthcare in Dominica. The ongoing project will see the once dilapidated structure transformed into a modern facility, housing services never available before in Dominica.

Hon. Julius Timothy, Minister for Health and Parliamentary Representative for the Roseau North Constituency where the hospital is located, has described the project as “a step in the right direction”. Minister Timothy said this is a testimony of government’s commitment to improving the lives of the Dominican people by creating greater access to health services which previously had to be sourced overseas. He stated further that this compliments other measures already put in place by the government.

When completed the old APU building will house a diagnostic centre, including mammogram and CT scan machines, oncology unit, health information unit, conference rooms and situation room.
