‘History Is Watching’: Dan Rather On Stakes Of Trump Impeachment | The Beat With Ari Melber | MSNBC

Legendary journalist Dan Rather joins The Beat on the historic first day of the public Trump impeachment hearings. Rather, who covered Watergate and the Clinton impeachment for CBS News, explains what makes these proceedings different: It's the first time an impeachment proceeding concerned questions of whether a president sought a foreign power's involvement in elections, and "very serious military, national security issues." Aired on 11/13/19.

  1. People who supported Nixon when he resigned = People who support t’rump now
Not too late to save yourselves from being the laughing stock of history.

    1. @Ursula Bauhoff You know who was an even better President than Trump? Every president in US history, including Confederate President Jefferson Davis during the Civil War!

    2. blink once on Sunday let me guess you’re voting for Elizabeth Warren clown😅😃😄🤣😁😂😀😆😉😎☺😏

    3. @Kid Pistol 27 I’m voting for anyone who isn’t Trump. If there was any other Republican worth voting for, I’d consider it. But alas, Trump has killed the GOP.

    4. @Kid Pistol 27 I never claimed to be either, but the truth is that Trump is the biggest fake Republican. Nothing he’s done has been remotely conservative. Republicans always supported respect for the military, free trade and budget responsibility. Now he pushes the deficit to a trillion and promotes protectionism and racism, while slandering career military and foreign service people at every opportunity. Republicans were the ones who always pushed back against Soviet and Russian aggression, but Trump gives Putin free reign at every opportunity, even when Russia attacks our democracy or our allies. Trump is as fake as it gets.

    1. @Fiona Anderson the beauty behiñd the economic prosperity we are enjoying Right now is a record hitting economy with NO Inflation.. that’s Why Trump has been suggesting lowering the Interest rates more & we would experience even more growth, interest rates were ZERO% for years under Obama..

    1. @somastic69 I hope not, that wasn’t the intention. Different people, different points of view. I’m glad I spoke with you because you made me go and research your points. In doing so, I learned things. So, I’m grateful. In open discourse, we must remember that the truth always lies somewhere in the middle. I haven’t changed my views, but they’ve been tempered. Glad we could come to an understanding, despite our differences.

    2. With a Eunuch like Shiff and a dowager like Nancy…..you’ll have Hillary back in no time, then the boot will be on the OTHER foot…Republicans can run a Grand Inquizition as well as any democrat cabal.

    3. Fiona and Karen YouTube gals have Trump derangement syndrome he’s in your head 24/7 you silly little girls

    4. @Fiona Anderson Actually, the Federal Income tax you pay is how the IRS sucks extra cash out of the system. If they did not do that, inflation would be out of control. At any rate, the IRS collects an unlawful tax and everyone pays it under threat of lien, levy, wage garnishment and seizures.

  2. It’s beyond obvious to me that Trump is guilty of bribery extortion and obstruction of justice. Too much corroborating evidence, plus it’s Trump. He’s a corrupt, hateful little man

    1. There is a recent documentary about Roy Cohn. Cohn graduated from Columbia Law School at age 20, which would have been 1947, Cohn made his mark as a prosecutor and counsel on Joe McCarthy’s committee. When that fell apart he began defending gangsters. Then he met and did legal work for Donald Trump.
Trump learned from Cohn, “Any publicity is good publicity” and “Don’t tell me what the law says. Tell me who the judge is.”
Well, in this case the judge will be the U.S Senate so don’t expect much.

    2. @Armen Yakhszyan , He shouldn’t have to show it to you, you be watching for yourself, sir. Quit watching Faux news, and start thinking for yourself.

    3. Demetrius Dion why do all you clowns call it faux news like ur scared to call it Fox News lmao. I watch cnn/msnbc/abc and more not just fox. Sadly you think fox is the only biased news source

    4. @Armen Yakhszyan , because 80% of it is Entertainment and Propaganda that you fools follow religiously as though it’s the truth, when in reality it’s fake news, but you Trumpteers are too ignorant to realize this. Only 20% of it is the truth, Instead of researching, reading and seeking the truth objectively and non-partially , you Trumpteers ignorantly accept it as being the truth and nothing but the truth. You all are followers, not leaders. You all are so pathetic really.

    1. Then………subpoena anyone he wants…………trump just keep all this conspiracies and  theories “alive” just to keep his base “glued” to him, he is the KING of conspiracies and theories……….

    2. @carmen patricia conde fierro
The latest polling from The Hill and Harris X indicates that 73 percent of all voters and 56 percent of Democrats believe President Donald Trump will be able, at least, to serve out his term in office despite impeachment proceedings.

This Democratic pessimism points out a huge problem for the party.

If a clear and overwhelming majority of their own partisans believe Trump will stay in office, what is the impeachment exercise but a total waste of time and taxpayer money?

    1. I am Australian, but went to college in the states (Illinois) in the 80s. I remember the grandfather of one of my college mates wanting (kind of demanding) to watch Dan Rather do the news one day. That was the level to which Dan Rather had gotten to. People trusted what he presented not what his opinion was but what he presented. SO I find it quite sad to see some of the negative comments here and have some hope for America’s future with others.
And before any of you ask, the answer is NO, I don’t know of any current news presenter in Australia who is trusted with what they present the way Dan Rather was in the 80s. We used to have people like him but we don’t anymore.

  3. Jim Jordan is clown! He can dispute the evidence, so he come up with delusions of grandeur! Even my cousin Vinny could have did a better job than this!

    1. @Audry Wise And what do you know? Ah yes, you know exactly what every other liberal here knows, exactly what the liberal circus tells you, and what the Dems leaders feed you. So of course, it must be true. You’re the joke my dear, and sadly, the fool.

    1. @McKittrick Hyatt I really hope you are right ans that everything turns out OK. I am not from the US but from Europe. I lived and worked in the US for 5 years (Iowa, NYC and Syracuse). whats currently really scates me. A civil war in US is quite imaginable and if it happens it will not me pretty/minor due to the enormous amount of weapons in the US. It will not only be a disaster for US but also for world economy but also beneficial for the power of the likes as Russia and Saoedi Arabia. This will potentially be a threath for our safety and security. We can defend ourselves but with US as ally we could do a lot better job to curtail the threath.
One of the earlier phases of WW Ii was the takeover of Poland by Germany. Is Russia conquering Ukraine similar?
NATO is currently not very strong anymore due to Trumps actions.
Frustrating is that we can of course not vote but our safety is partly dependent on a strong US. We are codependent.

    2. @McKittrick Hyatt Made a lot of typos and strange sentences in my previous post. Sorry for that. It was late. I am not really good at typing on a phone and english is my second language.
I hope you are right, but it does take the USA an enormous amount of time to remove a clearly disfunctional president and the damage gets bigger and bigger. If I performed this disfunctional at my job, I would for sure not last this long. Blabbing top secret information to a russian official would mean, firing at the spot.
You guys are lucky, that you have not encountered real hard problems like a 9/11 the last 3 years.
But hopefully everything will turn out all right.
It is not that I think badly about the common americans, but I just hope the republican party comes to its senses. Take care.

    3. Whether Trump is convicted or not, WE THE PEOPLE . . . those of us who want a President to speak for ALL AMERICANS and not just their base, need to go to the polls and VOTE TRUMP OUT OF OFFICE! Trump fails to realize that he answers to US, ALL OF US! And WE will make him a one-term President! 🙂

    4. @Bottle40 ✔ Yup. Saved me from having to type it! 😂 Look at Bloomberg possibly stepping in to disrupt progressive influence in the Democratic Party. SMH 😢😭

  4. If trump is allowed to get away with these crimes, these bribery attempts, the treason against America and crimes against humanity America will never fully recover from it.

    1. @Kelly _41m you are blind with brainwash bleach in your eyes and delusional with paranoia fed by your blind hatred in your empty soul if you think that.

    2. @Jesterface It’s an unfortunate, societal inability to hold and synthesize all of the realities you tidily summarized… short attention spans… denial… maybe even fatigue as the hits to our country (a Republic, if we can keep it) keep coming. Friend, if this doesn’t merit that tired notion of ‘thoughts and prayers’ I don’t know what does.

    1. @McKittrick Hyatt How easily you’re all led away to the pasture, being indoctrinated like Hitler’s minions, clearly brainwashed. Trump is not a criminal, and he is not what they say. There is no crime and there is no evidence. Wake up Herd.

    1. Pamela I m I presume the impeachment vote is on Monday? Yes?? They have all the actual evidence to impeach right? I will come back everyday to ask you u til there is one. Yes? 😂

  5. Jim Jordan is typical of the Republican party, they mostly have their heads so far up trumps a– they can’t possibly see the truth. What a corrupt govt we now have. Please everyone PRAY FOR OUR COUNTRY!!!

    1. @Bob Jones I love that you are named Bob Jones while making this statement. You are very correct: don’t pray, volunteer and vote.

    2. Larry Snyder I am convinced Putin has dirt on Trump and probably provided Trump with dirt on the others. Russia is running this show due to amoral people in power. They are bought and paid for.

    1. The U.S., system of governence allows tbe uber rich, big corporations, organizatons and churches to donate absorbent amounts of money to a candidate ‘s electorial campaign, at every level of government. This means politicians are bought, and paid for by self interest groups, which does norhing to promote a nation’s unity. It also undermines the separation of states from the judicial system when rhe party holding majority of congress seats can push through a President’s choices for judges to be appointed to life long senate positions. Disasterous!

    2. In contrary: President Trump is the best president ever! No wars more, peace in the world and jobs and work , better salary for America! Great!

  6. “I do not recall” was the response to Meulle’s list of questions during that investigation. You would think, after 2 years of investigation into foreign influence the President would be more discrete. He doesn’t know how to be discrete. Even though Meuller gave the House all it needed to impeach the president for obstruction of Justice, this guy feels empowered to sin again. Now the a house can’t avoid its responsivility

    1. If only it WAS up to the House! McConnell and the other Repub goons have made it clear that they do not have open minds, and have already decided to acquit Trump, whatever the evidence shows.

  7. Jim Jordan is clearly a schmuck with no business being in Congress. He’s not the only one, of course.

    1. @Red894336643
Nothing he/she can say that hasn’t been already said by all these others. It’s like if there’s an accident and the police arrive to see a huge mess and there are dozens of witnesses all talking to the police and all collaborating each other’s stories and then someone coming and saying, let’s find out who called 911 so we can hear from him. As if it would make any difference in any information coming to light

    2. H Z I’m always amazed at how you, personally, know exactly how the Whistleblower will testify? Can you read minds? The Whistleblower made the original accusations based on information the Whistleblower received from third parties its important the committee get their names and have them testify so we can know the TRUTH. If you don’t want to know the TRUTH then by all means never have the Whistleblower testify. Nowhere in the history of the United States has an accuser NOT testified to the veracity of their accusations except during the famous Red Scare of Joseph McCarthy because the accusers actually did not exist.
There is a 6th Amendment Right to confront your accuser. The Whistleblower wrote a report making accusations as to the President behavior and intent so how does the defense cross examine a piece of paper? How do you ask a piece of paper questions? I know you depose the person who made the allegations, you know the guy called the Whistleblower. Some how with Schiff and Democrats the Constitution has been suspended and the accused has no rights?
Maybe Schiff’s committee could depose you because you already know what the Whistleblower will say, go ahead please tell us what will the Whistleblower say. It’s a question real question.
You have absolutely no understanding of the law you’re a complete neophyte. How many years have you not been a lawyer?

    3. @Red894336643
I graduated from law school in 1982, although I went into international business and never practiced as an attorney. I’m a life-long conservative and I used to work for the republican party when the republican party was the party of decency. I would actually like to see trump finish his term and follow the will of the American voters in 2020, whatever that is. I don’t have anything against the whistleblower testifying, other than the obvious and undeniable intimation of serious blow-back if his/her identity becomes known to this administration and those who support it at any cost, hence the whistleblower protection laws put in place mostly by republicans and for good reason.
I’m all for the truth, which is why I’m baffled why this administration has forbidden people from testifying and has continued to pressure key witnesses from opening up to the American people and allowing the truth to come out. And you would agree with this, *If* the real motivation here is getting to the truth

    4. H Z No, I don’t think you graduated from law school at least not in the United States. If you did you’d be familiar with Execute Privilege, this baffles you, as it relates to the President and you’d be familiar with the Rights of the Accused, 6th Amendment, in the United States. The President is a co-equal branch of government to Congress and doesn’t have to submit to a subpoena because Congress feels like issuing a subpoena. If Congress wants to it can sue the president in open court asking for a writ to compel a person or document. You’d know the Whistleblower is the accuser and has NO RIGHT to anonymity before the accused or the US Government. As for the Whistleblower intimidation and blow back? Unless someone threatens the witness’s life there is no crime, are we to place getting the truth below the Whistleblower emotional state because someone may says something mean? You don’t write like someone who went to law school, you make conjecture arguments based on emotionalism. If you did go law school it’s was not in the United States. These are very simple legal concepts first year students knows. This a simple concepts most Americans understand.

  8. I don’t care about “history”. I care about our present situation, with a compromised president of limited brain function. Republicans clearly don’t care about their future reputations either or even the reputation of their party.
