Island That Takes Tourists ‘Back In Time’ Works To Make Visitors Feel Safe In The Age Of Coronavirus

Mackinac Island, Michigan, is known for its no-car policy. The picturesque island, filled with horse-drawn carriages, bicycles, and fudge, is famous for taking visitors back in time. Now the island community is working to keep up with the times, as it embraces new coronavirus-fighting safety features and works to make up for financial losses it’s faced as a result of the pandemic. 1. @Jeff Schmeganheiman Wow, did you not READ the comment above you? If not, then you’re blind as well.

    1. @Ms. RayRay Read my comments.
      Creeps are Creeps.
Don’t care WHAT party they are in.
We both know the % of creeps isn’t going to be 50-50 though.
Crimes against children should be AUTOMATIC Death Penalty. How could any rational person think otherwise?

    2. @ala ska Since it was a handful of Republicans that crafted the unheard of NPA in 2007, I’m pretty sure of what the percentage will be.

    3. @Michigan Wolverine OK, it seems you have NOT done ANY research on why Trump is called a sexual predator. Do your due diligence before you embarrass yourself again.

    1. @Defund the Criminals Would you say that to your loved ones who are vulnerable to this virus? NO! Come on,👏👏👏 Get it together!! Tinfoil ignorant, imbecile.

    1. A lot of the Jamaicans like the work, sort of Global Jim Crow looking, but not the wages.

  1. Without a healthy society; there is no healthy economy. Ergo, people first; economy second. It’s common sense.

Drumpf: “I’ll let a bunch of people die in order to save the economy…it’s their patriotic duty”. Ergo, economy first; people second. Hmmm 🤔, I wonder if God agrees with that one…Not!

MAGAhats tend to believe that the economy makes the people whereas in reality; it’s the opposite.

    1. Look at all the countries that followed the experts advice and didn’t make covid19 a political statement. Most are back open and doing great. Of course they’re still being careful but a billion times better than us.

    1. End of the season in October was fun, they use to have ‘Somewhere in Time’ reunions.

  2. That woman is absolutely right in order to have a healthy economy you have to have healthy people

  3. I need to put this on my list of places to visit once the pandemic is over. I just hope they’re views on race aren’t as dated because I’m pitch black.😅🙏🏿

    1. The diners in the restaurant and tourists on the ship were black and employees were black. I think the only colour they’re focused on right now is green(back). LOL

    2. They weren’t racist back in the ’60s. My family stayed there, because of a medical convention, and my father’s friend and his family went too. (Dad was president of our county’s AMA, Dr. Osbund was VP.) We kids all hung around together, and nobody gave us any crap. The Osbunds were black, we were Jewish. If anyone was a bigot, we didn’t notice. It gets boring really fast, you can cycle around the entire island in about half an hour. And the stores were all tourist traps selling cotton candy, taffy and the like. But, the food at the hotel was pretty good, they had a vegetarian option, and it is definitely relaxing.

    3. You can have a nice relaxing time, see the Soo Locks at Saulte Ste. Marie (3rd oldest town in North America, and/or Tecumenan Falls in Upper Penninsula also.

    4. Muhammad Gbadegesin I’ve never been either but it does look like a quaint place to visit. I’m white as a ghost so while I do visit if I see anyone that fits your description I would be pleased to shake your hand and give you a hug. I’m pretty sure we will both be welcomed when we visit. 💙

    5. It’s really fun. Spend the night, eat lots of fudge, and ride bikes all over the island including up into the middle.

  4. The most intelligent statement I have heard “If we have a healthy society we’ll have a good economy”
All Trump has to do to have a chance at re-election is to rebuild the economy and all that requires is to control the Pandemic and all that is needed to do this is for everyone to wear a mask. The fact he doesn’t recognise this simple fact and would rather try rebuilding the economy by sacrificing human life is disgraceful.

    1. Crispy, Trump keeps saying the problem is that we test to much. He seriously don’t understand why testing is the key to controlling the virus…. By his logic if we didn’t have pregnancy test nobody would have a baby.

    2. @Trisha Ann Exactly, anyone that thinks otherwise is fooling themselves – just like a pregnancy test.
The issue really is, until the health crisis is resolved, people will hesitate to risk their, or their families/friends lives and this will dampen the economy as people avoid consumption (going out, travel, socialising etc).

  5. Well it just makes sense to wear a mask and keep everyone safe so the country can stay open!

  6. I don’t care what anyone say Trump destroy America and just imagine 4 more years of him be worst
