Ketanji Brown Jackson, a former public defender who rose to become a judge on a powerful federal appeals court, made history Thursday as the first Black woman to sit on the Supreme Court.

Jackson, 51, a Miami native and Harvard-trained lawyer who was confirmed by the Senate nearly three months ago, will take the seat occupied by Associate Justice Stephen Breyer for 28 years. Breyer announced his retirement in January, clearing the way for President Joe Biden to name Jackson as his first pick for the nation's highest court.

Previously a judge on the powerful U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit, Jackson took the oath of office at a fraught moment for the high court, as its decisions to overturn Roe v. Wade and expand access to handguns have exacerbated tensions among the justices and underscored divisions among Americans over culture war issues.

  1. Does her skin color make her any more effective at carrying out her duties? Then why do you continue to mention it.

    1. if you’re so against labeling people by race, why aren’t you surprised that she’s the first? obviously someone is racist, or she wouldn’t be the first female black justice.

    1. Please. Since you seem to know. What is woman? I’ll wait for your response, because I really want to know what you have to say.

  2. All I see is someone who’s going to vote with the democrats on everything until she retires, not really something to celebrate.

  3. Such an advanced civilization we live in. 14,000+ year of evolution and race is still a key factor in nominating an individual to a position of power. Why wasn’t this headline “new supreme justice appointed”??

    1. I’m sure you’d rather an 80 year old white dude with mommy issues. Sticking to the status quo feels so good doesn’t it ol’ chap?

  4. Investing in crypto now should be in every wise individuals list, in some months time you’ll be ecstatic with the decision you made today

    1. Yeah nothing is ever good enough. There must be a person of every race, mixed race, sex, and gender. But it gets difficult because now you have 150 different kinds of genders and not enough supreme court justice seats, so we might have to increase the amount of judges by 200, lmao.
