  1. Is it really possible that anyone dealing with Russia has not read Browder’s books and understand these guys don’t play by the same rules? I would think that would be a prerequisite.

  2. Even if you are not an American, but a citizen of a NATO member country or a person working for a western media organization, you must leave immediately.

  3. After the whole Britney Griner ordeal, if you’re an American still in Russia you ignore red flags willingly

    1. @lkbV ah sorry I thought you were trying to troll me with something. Anytime someone says anything nice about Russia lately, people reply in Russian as a way of trolling. Thank you very much. I appreciate it.

    2. Your tunnel vision is disturbing. She broke a law and was treated accordingly. I lived there for five years without a single problem. Why? Because I respected their laws, as any American abroad should respect the laws of any country they visit.

  4. Why the heck would anyone, especially Americans and especially Reporters travel to Russia right now?!? It’s WAY too risky.

  5. For the last few years and as someone who would love to visit Russia, I’ve never understood why any American would go to Russia.

    1. Perhaps because you’ve been conditioned to fear and loathe them your entire life? I not only visited, but lived and worked there for five years. I found the overall quality of life to be much better than in the States. It’s safer, cleaner, much more affordable, and far less chaotic than a lot of places in the US. For most Americans, a visit would be eye-opening. You’ll understand how much nonsense our government churns out. The vast majority of people who have visited ir lived there have had zero problems. The people who have been detained are not exactly angels. I have yet to see a case where anyone was randomly detained. So, believe what you want, but do yourself the favor of having a look with your own eyes before drawing conclusions about any nation.

  6. They’ve been saying this for months. If you are an American in Russia, by now you should know the risks. I hope the money is worth it if so.

    1. @Shurely Western reporters can’t do journalist work in the RF. You can be either another Duranti, or a victim.

  7. If you have to tell people that it’s too late. Can’t imagine why anyone would want to be there at this point.

    1. @Mika Laybourn no. It isn’t, not even close to the same thing. The taliban and the Russian federation are two different beasts.

  8. The State Department has always erred on the side of caution in its warnings, and often the warnings are an exaggeration. This time, however, they’re not kidding. There are way too many unknowns when you step off a plane there, and they constantly have police checks in different cities. Everyone needs to step out for minute.

  9. When your country is in conflict with another country, you are taking a risk in going and staying in there. One can not always rely on the gov’t to rescue him/her. It’s not worth risking one’s life or well being just to gain some thing.

    1. Yes, unfortunately it’s much like a “hostage” situation in regards to no negotiations. You must assess the risks, no matter who/where you are.
I won’t go out of US now…seems too risky.

    2. @Susan Morales Asia is quite safe to travel, but i don’t guarante safety in china if your from US, Taiwan, Philippines, Japan, SK, Uk and Australia. These countries are currently in conflict with china.

  10. When I was a freshman in HS in 1989 my government teacher started the 1st day saying s quote from one of the previous rulers, I can’t remember who, but he basically said no matter how close with get with the US, our main purpose will always be to overthrow them!

  11. as a person who was raised in russia and live here as well, i really want to say to everybody please don’t risk with your freedom, leave this country/belarus because they won’t let you do your work and write truth about what happens here and in ukraine too – sending love to evan and all independent mass media/journalists, thank you for ur work!
