Medina Spirit Trainer Blames ‘Cancel Culture’ For Failed Drug Test | Rachel Maddow | MSNBC

Rachel Maddow shares video of horse trainer Bob Baffert discussing his horse, Kentucky Derby winner Medina Spirit, failing a drug test, chalking the matter up to "a cancel culture kind of thing." The fact that the interview took place on Fox News may explain Baffert's apparently very broad sense of the meaning of "cancel culture."

  1. I love how the usage for “cancel culture” has changed over time. Sometimes it means “I was fired for racist Twitter rants” now it means “my race horse failed a drug test”. Versatile phrase.

    1. You cheat or a corrupt politition, you get cancled or thrown in jail. That is the way it has been my whole life and equating corruption and cheating with over the top left wing correctness is only done by true grifters.

    2. So this is now 29 times this trainer has been cancelled after all these drug tests on his horses over the years it’s a right wing thing, that you must win at all costs, I’m sure the horse would be quite happy just staying at home.

    3. It’s interesting how this guy has been caught cheating multiple times before and yet is still allowed on the racetrack. What’s going on here?

    4. @Larry Oberly Agreed and how many times has he got away with it and not found out, you would think all other owners and trainers would be up in arms about having to race against his doped up horses.

    5. @Malcolm Sprott It makes me wonder if the horse racing industry and horse owners are tacitly are OK with cheating since this trainer has been caught multiple times cheating….

    1. It’s actually not funny when you think about THE FACT THAT 28 OFFENCES …MEANS NOT JUST THAT HE CHEATED…

EVERY COUNT IS ALSO ANIMAL ABUSE…..AND YOU CAN COUNT ON THE FACT THAT HE HAS ABUSED FAR MORE ….AND JUST HASNT GOTTEN CAUGHT! They say for every one time a DRUNK DRIVER GETS CAUGHT….ON AVERAGE THEY HAVE DONE IT 30 times before.
Who KNOWS HOW THOSE POOR HORSES HAVE SUFFERED….ITS NOT LIKE THEY WERE GIVEN SAFE DOSES EITHER …. THEY REPORTED THAT THE AMOUNT OF DRUGS THE HORSE ON WAS DOUBLE THE AMOUNT NORMALLY DETECTED.

ITS NOT LIKE IT WAS A DRUG THAT THE HORSE WOULD ENJOY EITHER….AND IT MUST HAVE BEEN PETRIFIED….AS IT WOULDNT OF UNDERSTOOD WHY HIS HEART WAS RACING. OR ANY OF THE EXTREMELY NEGATIVE SIDE EFFECTS OF GIVING ANYTHING ( person or animal MASSIVE AMOUNTS OF ILLEGAL DRUGS,

    2. @Msmayberry55 These creeps are just despicable.
But for the sea of caps, you wrote a great post.

    1. If only we had a vaccine for that. But then, the sick ones would refuse it. “Nnneigh,Wilbur, you’re infringing on my freedom!”

  2. Me: “I’m surprised he didn’t blame the horse…or ANTIFA! 😅”
Baffert: “It was someone who was taking the drugs, peed in the horse’s stall, where he ate the grass there. That’s how he tested positive!”
    Me: 😲😳

    1. Maybe he thinks Antifa drugged Medina Spirit’s morning pail of oats? But it sounds like this trainer’s got a suspicious history with failed drug tests of the horses he trains.

  3. It sounds like that trainer needs a ban. It’s some form of Olympic level mental gymnastics to put this down to cancel culture.

    1. The irony is that California supports Kentucky’s antics more than anything else. Federal taxes at the end of the year get spread out very unevenly. That is, in terms of where the bug money came from.

    1. @Constituent A that is what Rachel said. If you have a problem with numbers take it up with Rachel.

    2. @Larissa El-Amin the trainer got caught doping horses 30 times in the last 4 decades. Not just the horse that won this race.

  4. It’s funny how Fox’s buzz words begin to explain everything, even when it’s a horse race in a red state surrounded by the top earners in America, and the thing getting canceled is cheating…

    1. . . . and the guy who’s crying the loudest has been the most prolific winner for years, now is caught doping his winning horse, and suddenly the system is rigged by “woke” leftist? I wonder how the cheating 70’s and 80’s Russians would spin all their caught doping athletes in today’s world? Probably Hillary’s emails did it!

  5. So it’s a different world, if you cheat and get caught and get called out on it. 🤔 😮🧠💨

    1. For people who have spent their life cheating and getting away with it, consequences for cheating must seem like “a different world”.

  6. 1:41 the male host on foxs looks as bewildered as Tucker did after the Matt gaetz interview

    1. It’s only “cancel” when the system works against you. Liz is working against the system, so her cancel is OK.

    1. Don’t forget the “Affluneza defense” used in Texas by a kid. It worked…for awhile.

  7. At this point people are throwing whatever they can out there in the hope that something will stick…😒

  8. “Cancel Culture! Won’t even let me give doping to my horse anymore. How is this life fair when I can’t cheat anymore?”

    1. They’ve hated cancel culture ever since Rosa Parks refused to give up her seat to that kind old white woman.

  9. Cancel culture is what people say when they take no responsibility for their actions. It’s an admission of guilt without remorse for their wrong doing
