Mick Mulvaney details how he saw Trump handle documents

In an interview with CNN's Erin Burnett, former President Donald Trump's Chief of Staff Mick Mulvaney describes how he saw the former president handle documents. He believes that although the former president was responsible for overseeing documents, he blames the chaos after January 6 for the possible reason documents ended up at Mar-a-Lago. #CNN #News

  1. Not enough to justify a search warrant? He wouldn’t give back classified documents. What else do you need.

  2. That is a total BS argument. It is not ok to have TS/SCI documents in the basement of a country club. Is he really a serious person?

    1. @AppleRunner Tucked into a bill Trump signed into law in January 2018 was a provision increasing the punishment for knowingly removing classified materials with the intent to retain them at an “unauthorized location.”

Previously, someone found guilty of this crime could face up to one year in prison. When former CIA Director David Petraeus was charged in 2015 with mishandling classified data, he pleaded guilty under this statute to avoid a felony charge, as Politico pointed out. A similar situation unfolded a decade earlier, when former national security adviser Samuel Berger pleaded guilty to removing terrorism-related materials from the National Archives in 2005.

Now, a person convicted of violating this law can face up to five years in prison ― making it a felony-level offense to mishandle classified documents under 18 U.S.C. 1924.

Could 2018 Trump have unknowingly put 2022 Trump in a tough spot?

    2. @AppleRunner “On political corruption, we are going to restore honor to our government. In my administration, I’m going to enforce all laws concerning the protection of classified information. No one will be above the law.”
      –Donald J. Trump, August 2016

    3. @AppleRunner Another issue: There does not have to be a sense of urgency to apply for a search warrant. Just probable cause.

    4. @MD Yes. The DOJ was placed in an impossible situation. They needed to to seen to give Trump every opportunity to return the documents balanced against the national security threat of having TS/SCI documents in a country club basement secured with a padlock!

  3. Mick Mulvaney, gives the Irish population a bad name… Whatever happened to “Tell it like it is,” Mick?? This guy talks out of both sides of his mouth. Like most Republicans that are still looking for a cozy job in politics, they can’t upset the King and fall out of favor else they get death threats from the hounds.

    1. @Robert yes he was tired of seeing them both together and since she’s his wife and not covfefes it made him sick and he decided to tip off the FBI

    1. Florida & Washington DC are separated by nearly 1000 miles. A long way to take work home with you.

  4. Ignorance of the law does not exempt you from complying with it. Those things are taught in the first semester of law school!

    1. @gem anscombe
I know exactly what you said. Hence my comment. I only use the language in what I learned. Ignorance of the law is not the same as criminal intent or mens rea. This clown, thinks, that no one studies, besides the reporter did not follow that, maybe it is not common knowledge, as I thought. For an action to qualify as a crime, it must have three qualifications or principles. Principle of legality, principle of causality and criminal intent/mens rea. That is the definition of crime according to the jurisprudence.

I read replies, not videos. I did wrote my comment, do the same, it’s just proper courtesy.

  5. It amazes me on how any sane person can out loud support such a deranged person. This man cares about nobody but himself and those that are loyal to him.
Especially all of you that are willing to commit crimes or illegal acts in support of him.
During my active duty days whenever I joined a new unit, I always made it clear that I would support and do what I could to support those under my charge. However lying, cheating, or stealing was not one of them. Can’t even imagine having someone to lie to cover my rear. To do such a thing exemplifies how screwed up of a person I am. Wake the hell up people.
This man is a horrible human being. Not to mention the multitude of people he has screwed over at so many levels. Take the KoolAid antidote. Is he really worth it?

    1. @Alfred The Butler is your comment an example of irony? Are you referring to your sister as your gf? Inbreeding is not uncommon amongst republic unts!

    1. @The vaping Polisher
I guess you don’t know anything about law or the power of the presidency.
Also the laws that Trump broke are not based on classification.
You should have a serious talk to the person giving you your talking points.

  6. Mulvaney is talking out of both sides of his mouth. Anybody else taken secret document home goes to jail. No question asked.

    1. @Gloon Nug That’s all great deflecting but doesn’t answer ANYTHING that I asked. Which I knew you wouldn’t.
And for the record, you try even 1% of what Trump has in your workplace, and same results. But you don’t seem to condemn him.
So in addition to my earlier quesations, which I’d still like answers to, I will also ask: when you say ‘you guys can change this’ – who exactly are you referring to? Who are my ‘guys’ that you’re lumping me in with?
Please try answering for a change because deflective talking points only tell me one thing: YOu don’t want to answer simple, direct questions.

  7. What remains an absolute mystery to me is how all these Trump supporters are still supporting Trump and ignoring the fact that the DOJ asked him and gave him more than a year to return the documents. At what point do they not raise the level of intensity? I find myself in big trouble at some point after the third time my dad has asked me to clean my room…js….

  8. Mulvaney is missing the part where donald trump was told to return those documents and he didn’t do it, so to say it was oversight on donald’s part is pretty insane.

    1. They were not looking for documents if it took 9 hours to look through the place they were searching for something else

    2. @Charles Larry how long do you think it should take to search for top secret documents? Unless the warrant says you are only allowed to search just his desk, I’m pretty sure they will be searching the entire building.

    3. @Charles Larry
It is a very big building chuck.
How many places can you find in your house to hide a folder?

    4. Do you people do ANY thinking for yourselves?
Prepare yourselves for one last, colossal disappointment.
      November is coming!

    5. @SolidSteele
      Interesting thought.
I just don’t know who you are speaking to. Both sides say the same thing about the other side.

  9. Missing the point, Intent of why he took them does not matter, he clearly intended to keep them illegally (tons of evidence proves this) and that is enough to prove his guilt.

    1. @Bon Goaie This makes How many times are you’ve to copied/pasted this same comment? Are you wanting to be blocked 🚫 for spamming?

  10. Mulvaney only spoke about the handling of documents while packing – totally legitimate point. However there remains the report of Trump refusing to return them “They’re mine…” or for that matter, a subpoena dated 2mo ago. Further back – keeping them in an unlocked room, in a building with public access, visited by international dignitaries with their retinues. THAT cannot be swept under the carpet or explained away as an innocent mistake. The FBI & Trump representatives haggled for 2mo over boxes that voila suddenly did exist despite denials!
I understand why Mulvaney would skirt around the question by why not call him out on it, to atleast alert viewers that its an incomplete & misleading answer? As a viewer, I’m not impressed or amused.

    1. One of my theories is that Trump was encouraged to choose Mar-a-Lago as a base *SPECIFICALLY BECAUSE* it had NO SECURITY WHATSOEVER.

    2. @Simon Multiverse totally reasonable theory if it were anyone else & if it hadn’t been winter. Mr. I Cheat at Golf wouldve wanted to golf in the sun.

  11. There’s no way you “accidentally” take TS-SCI material. What a joke to even suggest that.
Mulvaney is trying to talk out of both sides of his mouth.

  12. This wasn’t an overnight. He was subpoenaed to turn them over months ago and refused to do so. They then lied and said they didn’t have them. How is that an oversight? How does that not justify intent.

  13. This is like asking an accomplice about the other accomplice. The only sensible thing he said is that trump took the documents because he perceived they were valuable to him, but then he deflects to stupid comments. If Hillary had done one tenth of this, this individual number whatever would’ve gotten diarrhea

  14. Here we have Mulvaney trying to once again say. “It wasn’t his fault, it was the one armed man!” Gotta give Reps a little credit for consistency. They deflect like nobody else.

    1. It wasn’t whose fault — Trump’s or Mulvaney’s? I don’t really see how he was deflecting. Seems to me he is just hesistant on speculating about things without having the details.

    2. @Doug Would know what details? Most of this covers events that happened either after Trump left the white house or when Mulvaney was the U.S. Ambassador to Ireland. Not certain what he’s doing now but doubt that its working for Trump given he resigned on Jan 6th and has been posting fairly unfavorable things about him since then on twitter. More than anything he’s just regurgitating flawed reasoning that he is seeing on conservative media, which is something that 99% of the country is currently doing. (with the caveat that you replace the term “conservative media” with “liberal media” as it relates to liberals).

  15. *This is what actually happened. This video is not for kids, it’s shocking* ALLTIME.LIVE
Mr. Dunn – respect to you.

  16. “they’re going to have to show it was willful or he acted intentionally”
Mulvaney actually said that with a straight face. The fact they’ve been trying to get the docs back for months kinda points to Trump’s intent to keep them which points to his intent to take them in the first place.

    1. “It’s not theirs. It’s mine.” Pretty much already demonstrates intentionality.

I mean, it’s not accidental possession if he’s trying to claim he owns them to the people trying to get him to willingly release them to their rightful and lawful custodians.
