New accusations that South Africa is helping Russia in its war on Ukraine

The US ambassador to South Africa accused the South African government of delivering arms and ammunition to a sanctioned Russian cargo vessel late last year, local media said. In response to Ambassador Reuben Brigety II's claims, South Africa has summoned him to Pretoria. #CNN #News

    1. Gotta hold your government accountable by making noise. It appears that whatever shady dealings are going on, its coming from the highest echelons of power in SA and your parliament is by and large left in the dark.

  1. As a South African citizen I just want to clarify that the corrupt ANC government DOES NOT represent the will of the South African people. Their defence of the tyrannical Russian government only serves to further their own corrupt dealings with Russian oligarchs. We the South African people stand firmly against Russia.

    1. @C De See Turkey,Syria,Libya,Yemen, etc. Just like it’s mentioned in the Bible. Funny how things are going according to plan just like in Ezekiel,Daniel, and Revalation.

  2. Well that’s almost a billion dollars the US can redirect away from South Africa to Ukraine.

  3. In French we have an expression which goes like this: (not sure it’s politically correct):
“You can have the butter, the money from the butter. But don’t try to have the farmer’s daughter also.
South Africa is looking for all.

    1. She’s not on the menu, buddy.
I love your French phrase, just a warning, don’t try to go too far.

    1. During the same period, the US was arming the Afghan Mujahideen to fight against the Soviet Union. The point is that American foreign policy is fluid.

  4. Surprised? Obviously Russian is getting help via sea lanes and therefore would have to be someplace and/or places along the route to the Black Sea that would also receive sanctuary while traveling through waters around Syria and Egypt or Iberia. Its unlikely shipping out to places like Scandanavia and the like could end up at the front. The most likely place to get these resources would be shipping lanes up to the Black Sea. Look for more allies along that way including potentially anti-government forces in Turkey.

  5. I would like to add my voice to what someone else has said in the comment section. A big number of us the citizens of Africa actually cherish values of freedom and democracy. Unfortunately we are powerless against our dictatorial and corrupt leaders who are choosing to align with fellow autocrats. That said, I’m also disappointed western governments continue to work with and support some of our autocratic leaders

    1. Agree. US has no problem backing despots anywhere around the world, and are doing so right now in Africa.

    1. It’s actually easy, how about you vote him and his party out? Oh wait, you lack numbers.

    1. You mean what could they do to South Africa that’s worse than what they’ve done to us in the past?

  6. South Africa will probably quickly find out why US sanctions are different. If China won’t even consider ignoring US sanctuons on Russia, then what makes South Africa think they can do business with the US and EU while violating sanctions and arming Moscow?

    1. It might have something to do with the 40 or so ships with grain that isn’t allowed to duck in Africa

  7. The South African government has since expressed its displeasure with Ambassador Brigety’s decision to make the allegations public. However, President Cyril Ramaphosa has announced that an independent inquiry, led by a retired judge, will be established to investigate the claims. Amazingly it needs a retired judge to find out what kind of stuff was loaded and/or unloaded at the military harbour base. RSA government and RSA navy does not know. In a year or two we will be told that the russians sold RSA parts for a new atomic powerplant to solve the ongoing power crisis.

    1. That would be nice. You should try living without electricity before you think that’s a bad thing

    1. Why? Seriously I want to know. Especially given the harm and murder America and Europe brought to the African continent

    2. where were you in 2011 when this ”angels” destroyed libya despite AU opposing to their unilateral actions..??were you ashamed back then..??

    3. The world stood with you against Apartheid and you turn your back against the world fighting Fascist. SHAME!

  8. The sheer amount of approving and cheering comments by ordinary Russians under videos about the atrocities committed against civilians and prisoners of war in Ukraine were no less shocking to Ukrainians than the war itself.
We somehow got used to the war, but the realization of who we have been living next to all this time without even knowing it is still terrifying.
Those barbarians called themselves our brothers.
Imagine what they would do to you, who they call their enemies, if you let them.
Not supplying weapons to Ukraine under the pretext of achieving an early peace is like allowing a violator to violate his victim in order to end the violence as soon as possible.

    1. I dont care for both pro palestine countries .ukraine even supported a un resolution against our right to hv nuclear weapons .

  9. It is an opposite of what South Africa used to claim that it stands against injustices around the world by supporting Putin’s carnage of innocent Ukrainian civilians. South Africa fought hard against injustices and apartheid and it is unfortunate that today South Africa is in the wrong side of history.

  10. As a South African, I am mortified at the mere thought that this may be true! It is bad enough not to condemn Russia’s war, something else entirely to actively support it.

  11. South Africa is a sovereign state and will not be bullied. Your enemies are not our enemies ✊✊

  12. When you consider this is a people that knows what it’s like to be oppressed, The south African government must have been paid a boatload of money to sacrifice their integrity.
