OVER 900 CRUISE PASSENGERS GO ON TOURS AS MV NORWEGIAN GEM MAKES INAUGURAL CALL TO DOMINICA

Roseau, Dominica – January 17, 2008……………….. Over 900 passengers aboard norwegian_gem_from_morne_bruce.jpgthe MV Norwegian Gem, which made its inaugural call to the Roseau Cruise Ship Berth in Roseau last Saturday, went on organised tours to several of Dominica’s unique attractions.

 

This was the eleventh inaugural call for the 2007/2008 cruise season.

 

The Norwegian Gem, which is owned by MV Norwegian Cruise Line, will make one more call to Dominica in the 2007/2008 cruise ship season. The passenger capacity of the 294. 13 liner is 2384.

$20 MILLION INVESTMENTS IN AGRICULTURAL SECTOR IN THE SHORT TO MEDIUM-TERM

Roseau, Dominica – January 17, 2008………………..Fully cognizant of the minister_with_calibishie_farmer_deles_warrington.jpgimportant role the agricultural sector plays in the growth of the national economy and in the sustainable development of the country, Government has reaffirmed  its commitment to the development of that sector with the announcement of  $20 million ECD  in investments  in the short to medium-term.

 

Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry, Hon. Matthew Walter  recently outlined the level of investment currently underway  and  planned investments in the agricultural sector in the medium-term, that is, within the next three years.

NATURE ISLAND OF DOMINICA TO HOST 46TH MEETING OF OECS AUTHORITY

Roseau, Dominica – January 15, 2008……………….. Preparations are in high prime_minister_skerrit_addresses_nation_nov_3_2007.jpggear for the hosting of the 46th Meeting of the OECS Authority in Roseau, Dominica from January 17-18, 2008, with deeper economic integration in the sub- region high on the agenda. The Meeting will be chaired by Chairman of the OECS Authority, Dominica’s Prime Minister, Hon. Roosevelt Skerrit.

 

The Meeting will be preceded by an opening ceremony on the evening of Wednesday, January 16, 2008 at the Fort Young Hotel.

 

The 46th meeting of the OECS Authority precedes the launch of a major public consultation exercise on the Draft Economic Union Treaty for the OECS. The Meeting will discuss a plan of action for the exercise and confirm the role of the Heads of Government who have indicated their intention to take the lead in mobilizing region-wide commitment to and support for this new phase in the deepening of OECS integration.

HON. JULIUS TIMOTHY SPEAKS ON ASPECTS OF GOVERNMENT’S PLANS THE CAPITAL CITY OF ROSEAU

Roseau, Dominica – December 24, 2007………… Minister for Economic Development and Urban Renewal, Hon. Julius Timothy has unveiled aspects of Government’s plans to transform the Capital City of Roseau as part of its Roseau Development Plan.

 

The Minister made the remarks at the Ninth Inaugural Meeting of the Roseau City Council held recently at the Arawak House of Culture.

 

According to the Minister, the Plan seeks generally to address the improvement the physical environment of the Roseau Area, overall development of the City, particularly housing and improvement of the Tourism assets in Roseau.

DOMINICA AND CHINA SEEKING TO DEEPEN AREAS OF COOPERATION

Roseau, Dominica – December 4, 2007…… The Commonwealth of Dominica is chinese_head_of_delegation_receives_gift_from_dca_brewery.jpgseeking to deepen and broaden areas of cooperation with the People’s Republic of China as a fifteen member delegation from Guangdong Province in China continues a four-day visit to Dominica. The delegation which is led by Director General of Foreign Affairs Office of Guangdong Province, Mr. Fu Lang,  arrived on island on Sunday.

 

The purpose of the visit is three-fold:

 

· Promote the bilateral economic and trade relationship between Dominica and China as a follow-up to the visit by Prime Minister, Honourable Roosevelt Skerrit in April, 2007;

· Gain better knowledge and understanding  of Dominica’s economic, trade, cultural and tourism development;

· Source possibilities for cooperation in the areas of trade, culture, and tourism between Dominica and China.
