  1. The position of Justice of the Peace enables the justices access to the public which can also lead to business connections and possible profits in that regard. However, as Mr. Hall said, it is voluntary and no payment should be expected or demanded for services. My grandfather was a JP and never was paid for his services which he viewed as a privilege. But it did allow him to associate with successful members of the community with business, religious, and political connections as well as the average citizen whom he has helped to get out of poverty. This is just the dynamics of the position. He was well respected.

    1. Good for your grandfather Chris, we thank him for his service as a JP. However you sounding a bit pompous.

  2. Compensation should be considered by the government not the people. What is the difference between a notary and a JP?

Also wasn’t there a case sometime ago when a Guidance Councillor who is also a JP was charge with rape of a minor at a high school in St. Andrew?

Growing up a JP was a community person who knew most people in the community, children and grandchildren and so on. They were well known and respectable and respected.

  3. In Ontario, Canada a JP requires a university degree, then they are given training. They don’t require a legal education. They are paid over $170.00 a year. They preside over bail hearing and other criminals matters. If you need a document signed, you have to pay.The JP doesn’t have to know you. Requiring JP’s to know citizens personally is a hard task. There are Notary public and commissioner of oaths who can sign or verify you documents too, but you still have to pay. So I think these JP’s should be remunerated.

  4. In the USA where jp is similar to a notary and they charge any where from $2-$5 and they don’t have to know the person, just to verify the person with valid proof of identification

  5. They should have offices in each parishes where you can find a JP and they should not be telling you I don’t know you so I can’t notarize your documents for you

  6. I believe they could charge a small fee to notarize a document in JA, and used the money to replace stamps and equipment

  7. I AM NOT BASHING THEM !!!!***THEY HAVE SAVED A LOT OF FAMILIES !!! THEY HAVE HELPED MANY OF THE UNDERCLASS CITIZENS WHO CANNOT EVEN SEE THEIR MEMBER OF PARLIAMENT
