One thing that we must be careful of in any democracy is an attitude of hyperpessimism.
In reality, there is a lot that the legislative branch does… it just is not covered by the media, other than CSPAN frequently. Some great public servants there too.
In short, these representatives are there because WE put them there… even those who apathetically choose not to vote. The Congress is a direct reflection of US.
As Obama says during campaign rallies… “don’t say boo, VOTE!” We should all spend much less time on tic tock, watching sports, watching entertainment and music… and learning geopolitics, civics and history.
Democracy is the responsibility of the common person. We get the government that we work for.
