Sen. Gillibrand: ‘We Have To Work Harder To Find The Bipartisan Support That We Need’ On Gun Reform

Senator Kristen Gillibrand (D-NY) joins Andrea Mitchell to discuss legislation the Senate could take up on gun reforms, as well as her subcommittee hearing today about sexual assault in the military. “I think what's necessary is that we have universal background checks, we have an assault weapons ban and a ban on large magazines and have a federal anti-gun trafficking law. Those are three pieces of legislation that overall would be able to address this unbelievable scourge of gun death in this country,” Gillibrand says. Aired on 03/24/2021.

Sen. Gillibrand: 'We Have To Work Harder To Find The Bipartisan Support That We Need' On Gun Reform

  1. I’m a gun owner, and a Marine combat veteran. I don’t own an assault rifle, because my days of going on patrols, raids and assaults are over. I live in the suburbs now, so why on earth would I need a weapon that was designed for mass carnage on the battlefield? I’m a practical person, so if I go out and buy a hammer, it’s because I intend on hammering something.
When it comes to assault rifles, I know them like the back of my hand. You do not want to be on the receiving end of a weapon with a velocity like that. Your chances of surviving are extremely slim, and rightfully so, because it’s a weapon that was designed for the battlefield.

    1. @recon dad Reading comprehension fails you sir. The funny thing is gun nuts like yourself, thinking you are educating others. Guaranteed you have never even taken a gun safety course. Stay stupid my fellow American peace.

    2. @Robert Alan An there it is the hypocritical, ridiculous uneducated response. Gun laws where made specifically for fools such as yourself.

    3. @Ro G It is hilarious yet sad at the same time. An you’re absolutely correct sir there is no defense, they can make at all.

    4. @Abe M. oh is that so? I’m a fool? Gun laws were meant for me? Name the crime I committed or the mental institution I was committed to both prevent me from owning a firearm.

    1. Do you want a civil war? Because that’s how you get a civil war.

  2. You know very well your GOP colleagues have no intent to be bipartisan on any issue relative to the health, safety, economic wellbeing of the majority mass of the Amercsn people!!!! Also voting and civil rights!!! Please consider bypassing the Filbuster on a situational basis at least. Didn’t the GOP pass that tax robbery bill, and confirm a corrupt Trump cabinet and 3 corrupt SCJustices with simple majority??? Dems should maintain public awareness of this as well as the “free press”!!!!!!

    1. So a mad power grab is your solution? You must really want a civil war huh?

  3. I saw a meme with a picture of a toddler hiding under a desk as part of an active shooter drill. The caption read: “If a 6 year old can deal with active shooter drills, an adult can deal with 7-day waiting periods, universal background checks, and living without the need for a AR15.”

    The meme’s not wrong.

  4. Well Senator why not show some leadership and dismiss your armed security detail. Until you do, don’t lecture us with the same old socialist Democrat BS.

  5. There will be no action in the Senate on ANY problem until the filibuster is fixed.
So how about a 55% population-based cloture rule?
Turns out the Democrats already represent 55% of the voters. Presto chango, no filibuster.
    #FinishTheFilibuster #StopTheBlockheads

  6. It should be able to get the bipartisan votes to pass this bill. What if THEIR CHILDREN WERE KILLED? Maybe then they would?

  7. This woman is not living in the real world. The only way that you are going to get bills pass is getting rid of the filibuster. At least she is mentioned it.
