A hammer-wielding attacker who violently assaulted the husband of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi inside the family’s San Francisco home, was targeting the longtime California lawmaker, a person familiar with the matter said Friday. The suspect, who was arrested after the early morning Friday break-in, called out "Where is Nancy?" the source said.

San Francisco Police Chief William Scott identified the alleged assailant as 42-year-old David DePape of Berkeley, California. DePape was charged with multiple crimes, including attempted homicide, assault with a deadly weapon and elder abuse. Paul Pelosi is in surgery, reports say.

He suffered blunt force trauma to his head and body. Pelosi, 82, is expected to make a full recovery, the speaker's office said. Nancy Pelosi, who is second in line to the presidency, was in Washington at the time of the assault.

  1. That’s simply horrible.
My heart goes out to the Speaker’s family, regardless of politics, nobody deserves such violence inflicted upon them, in front of them, or near them.

My compassion extends out past the Pelosi family to include the Police Officers, who had to bear witness, and Medical personal trying to fix everything that went horribly wrong today.

  2. The people in that district need to write their Congress woman and demand that the police are not defunded.

  3. Anyone else notice how this officer is saying Mr. And Ms. Pelosi in all the wrong places? Either he’s confused or something is majorly wrong here.
