Also watching as an outsider, you are always in election mode. No wonder your government has become so gridlocked. Don’t you think an election every 4 years, on the same day, run exactly the same way in each state would be the most effective way to elect a government? It works pretty much everywhere else.
Senate seat tenures are 6 years. House of Representatve seat tenures are 2 years. To your point, yeah, House members are pretty much pertetually in re-election mode. The Senate is a little trickier but it is set up so the elections are staggered – only a maximum of 1/3 of senate seats could be up for re-election every two years, but not both seats from any individual state.
Make sense? Yeah, I am 52 years old, live here, and I had to google it too.
It suspposed to be so that the Senate elections can’t be gamed, but just like this, I doubt it hasn’t been tried and/or won’t be at some point.

I always wondered why Hispanic Americans held a devotion to the democratic party. They always seemed like hard working, family oriented, predominantly Christian Americans. Glad to see the change. Hopefully we can get this ship right again.
