Caribbean HIV and AIDS Alliance launches Responsible TourismModel on HIV and AIDS

The Caribbean HIV&AIDS Alliance (CHAA) launched a groundbreaking and innovative HIV and
AIDS Responsible Tourism Model at a forum at the Jolly Beach Resort in Antigua on
Wednesday, 31st March 2010. The toolkits resulted from a CHAA project, funded by the United
Kingdom Department for International Development (DFID), and implemented in Barbados by
Associates for International Development Incorporated (AIDInc). The project focused on
accelerating the private sector response to HIV and AIDS in the Caribbean. The pilot project
took place in Barbados and Jamaica and comprised various behaviour change interventions
conducted among key populations such as sex workers, men who have sex with men and
tourism workers.

2010 BVI MUSIC FEST LINEUP OFFICIALLY ANNOUNCED:
IYAZ, GYPTIAN, NINA SKY, & FANTASIA TO BE FEATURED

 

Road Town, Tortola, April 17 – At a launch party at Quito’s Gazebo last night, the 2010 BVI Music Festival Committee announced an impressive musical line up for the tenth anniversary of the beach concerts.  The lineup includes world renowned acts such as the 2004 American Idol, Fantasia, Jamaican reggae singer Gyptian and the Virgin Islands very own, international musical talent, Iyaz.

Beginning on Friday, May 28, reggae and soca fans will get a chance to hear music from;  WCK, Gyptian, Harella, Jalena, and Aaron.  Saturday night will feature, Co Co Tea, Nina Sky, Iyaz, Imo, Maccabee, Empress Ruth, and Sister Joyce. The last night of the festival will feature American Idol, Fantasia, The Spinners, Mash the Run Way Fashion Show, Ghost from the United Kingdom, and the BVI’s MBJ Baltimore.

Grand Gathering of the World’s Cultures at Expo 2010 Shanghai China; Dominica as part of the CARICOM

World Expo 2010 is expected to take place from May 1st to October 31st  2010  in Shanghai, China under the  theme “Better City, Better life” .Over  two hundred and forty-one (241) countries and international organizations are participating in this event, with an estimated seventy(70)million persons expected to visit the Expo over its six month duration.

DOMINICA’S PRIME MINISTER WRITES TO CHINESE PREMIER FOLLOWING POWERFUL EARTHQUAKE

Roseau, Dominica– April 15, 2010………Dominica’s Prime Minister, Hon. Roosevelt Skerrit has written a letter to  Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao expressing the sympathy of the Government and People of Dominica following the devastation caused to the Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture of Yushu in southern Qinghai Province by a massive earthquake and a series of aftershocks on Wednesday.

Government facilitates private sector investments and job creation

Roseau, Dominica– April 15, 2010………  A number of private sector-led investments are expected to lead to the creation of hundreds of new jobs in the Dominican economy.

In an address at a news conference marking 100 days in the new term, Prime Minister, Hon. Roosevelt Skerrit stated that between January to December, 2009, Invest Dominica Authority (IDA) approved concessions to thirty-three (33) companies with the potential to create one hundred and ninety six (196) jobs and an investment of $43.28 million.
