Lewis said theocracy is the worst form of government there is, because you wind up with a tyrant for a leader. C.S. Lewis was a Christian. Churches need to start paying some taxes
How about Synagogues?
Any charitable organization that doesn’t spend 90% of the monies they bring in directly on their stated mission, shouldn’t be considered a charity for tax purposes.

You are one of the rare people who knows this. One of the founders of the “Moral Majority” organization admitted that they were never a majority. He explained that, if all Americans voted, the religious right would never win any elections. He said this way back in 1980.
