Vaccine and Covid-19 testing programs expand across Dominica

Roseau, Dominica: With the number of coronavirus cases increase, on the island of Dominica, the government has expanded its vaccine and covid-19 testing programs across the island. The authorities are aiming at vaccinating and diagnosing more people to understand the real situation. 

Minister of health wellness and new health investment Dr. Irving McIntyre recently declared that the country has enough doses to immunize the public. As per the new reports by the ministry of health, on September 2, 2021, we will do the COVID-19 vaccine at eight different health centers across the country.

Health centers offering the vaccine

  • La Plaine Health Centre
  • Castle Bruce Health Centre
  • Grand Bay Health Centre
  • Roseau Health Centre
  • Esprit Murphy Health & Wellness Centre (Mahaut)
  • Doris Musgrave Health & Wellness Centre (Marigot)
  • St Joseph Health Centre 
  • RFA Hospital (Portsmouth)

The health officials are also vigorously testing people for coronavirus across the country. As of Thursday, September 2, 2021, health personnel will do testing at seven different locations.

Dominica is also planning the roll-out of the Pfizer vaccine for children over the age of 12. The roll-out is expected to start once the vaccines land in the United States of America.

  • RFA Hospital (Portsmouth)

The ministry of health and wellness has advised people facing flu-like symptoms to remain home. Authorities said such persons must call on the COVID-19 hotline numbers, and teams will reach out to them for testing. The hotline numbers are 448-2151, 448-2156, 448-2153. 

Prime Minister of Dominica, Dr. Roosevelt Skerrit, continues to ask the public to get vaccinated. Recently he said,” the key to recovery is in our hands. We must get vaccinated, practice the health and safety protocols and help this country build resistance to COVID-19.”
